Opera 10.5 angst

I am an old timer opera user. Been using since 6.x or something when still on dial-up. Then I was on other browsers for a few years because of compatibility.

Now opera got quite good with 9.x series. Also liked 10.x. I like link, unite etc. But lately there are things that annoy the heck out of me.

Since 10.5x:
- I never had to restart opera a lot, but lately I have to do it quite a bit. If I don't certain pages just won't load (first pictures, later everything, refresh works at first then even refresh refuses to load). Unite might be causing it since unite also is not accessible when this happens or maybe just too many open connections, dunno. I don't have the energy to debug Opera after 10 hrs of the same at work.
- I just lost all open tabs, opera link and unite settings from one such restart of opera.
- Gmail crashing
- Why do I have to use opera 10.5 beta in background besides the newest 10.53 which seems buggier?
- 10.5x is memory-hungry, which is ok on my desktop, but my laptop can exactly take it, any settings?
- Opera link just won't work on a few of my opera installs. It hangs on quit - "synchronizing" forever, no fix for the last few months.
- Fridge in unite is not working (not that I care so much but it is BUNDLED, it SHOULD work)
- Ability to set viewport position on speed dial would be very very nice (some pages have large headers!)

I am sure there is more, its just I cannot rememeber it all.

When bad is bad enough it makes people quit using the product. I know I am a power user and perfectionist. And that my nerves need some work. It is not bad enough for me to quit using Opera, yet. But still - I don't want to go any further down this road. At least fix on the most annoying stuff like link not synching would do. And that loading bug.

Thanks.

p.s. I still love Opera and I try to bring people over since I think this IS the best choice. But sometimes its kinda hard to justify it when stuff breaks. Then you have to remove opera and put ie/ff back, sadly. Keep up the good work.

p.p.s. There is an interesting bug with outlook, if you have default browser opera and click a link with opera closed it will display an error. But if opera is open it works nicely. Doubt anything could be done about that eh?

Yes I noticed that last issue too. If Opera is not open and I click a link, in an e-mail for instance, Opera scolds me for trying to open a version that is "already in use by somebody else". Opera was already taking far longer to open anyway with 10.5 so this was the first alert I had to what was going to be an altogether unpleasant update experience in the ensuing weeks. I also had the pages not loading thing (hardly speedy)
As you say, we are not getting paid to diagnose these problems. You and I are probably both professionals who expect to be criticized when some of our work does not function. I wish the defenders of this program would accept that this recent update was badly done. Can they do no wrong because they are the "good guys"? Their huffy defensiveness just adds to the sour taste left by a dysfunctional interface.
Of course the first problem was fixed by making Opera not the default browser. I wonder how many people did that and how many will come back when, and if, it's fixed?

In Outlook Express, sometimes I have to triple click the link and then Opera will open. I get no errors.

Also, with the program ccleaner, when I check for updates and Opera is the default browser, Internet Explorer opens AFTER Opera opens.
That might be a bug with ccleaner though.
