java malfunctioning after installing "Update 2 java for Mac os X"

After running software updater a couple of days ago and installing "Update 2 java for Mac os X" I have noticed that some java content is not loading any more on certain sites. For example http://www.radio3.rai.it/dl/radio3/concerti/ContentItem-25157db1-1c55-4869-b101-9de4d415ad1c.html the box at the bottom of the page no longer loads its content, and the same error occurs in Camino and Safari. http://www.imdb.com/ no longer displays any images, but this occurs only in Opera, while it works like before in Camino and Safari.

Has anybody else encountered similar problems after this update? It seems to me to be a problem that affects several browsers, but Opera more so than others.

Opera 10.53
Os 10.6.3
2.53 Ghz Intel core duo
OSX 10.6.8, MBP 2009

Yeah I haven't used Opera since they broke Java. left I'm waiting for them to fix it someday. It wasn't working right even before the java 2 update. Firefox, safari, camino, omniweb, icab, stainless browsers work fine.

This is why I always image my drives for, the last time they (Apple) updated us with their version of Java, it did the same thing if memory serves me correct and, you've got to keep in mind that their Java is not Sun Java either but is customized to suit their browser and their applications specifically. This is one reason why I never udpate Java as the last time, I had to use Terminal to reinstall Java from the OEM install disc and upgrade / roll back to where it was prior to the update. It was a pain. Now, I've gotten it down to simply image the drive so I can go back to exactly how it was in ten minutes.

Hope Opera comes out with working version of 10.5 soon as I rolled back to 10.10 just to avoid using 10.5 although, I am testing / trying 10.54 and so far, it's better than 10.53 was on my Macrpo.

Beleive it or not, but this update was actually a good thing for Opera on the Mac in the long run. smile It means we can provide a much better Java experience in an upcoming version of Opera for users who have installed this update. Though right now it broke some things for some applets.

Why isn't there an option any longer to disable Java? If you do it through opera:config it doesn't disable Java. You have to use plugin-ignore.ini.

Because Java is now a normal plug-in and not a separate thing as it used to be. Advanced users wanting to cherry pick their plug-ins can use the plugins-ignore.ini mechanism.

Where/What is this plugins-ignore.ini mechanism, please? Would I make an ini file outside of Opera?
