These bigger spaces between Opera menu items

Since like 10.10 there have been wider vertical spacing between opera menu items.
I have done fresh installs on different machines and always get the wide spacing between menu items.
The wide spacing is in all menus including bookmarks/hotlist/favorites.
I have patiently waited and searched hoping to find an adjustment somewhere so that I can quietly fix this for myself,
but I haven't found anything.
If anyone knows of any way to adjust this spacing back to the closer/tighter way that used to be, I would be ever so grateful
for the information or links to the information.
I can't help but think alot of other people would also like to know too.
If it is something simple like a tweak in opera:config then I'll right now plead ignorance. I've searched there and in .ini files
and even the registry.
I have attached a screenshot someone else made that demonstrates the issue.
I will watch this topic hoping for enlightenment.
Thank You opera10-menu-items-height-1.png

I don't see any difference between Opera and other applications — if anything the Opera menus are slightly closer. I am using a Windows XP theme with Verdana 11 pixel font for the menus. It looks like you're using a classic theme with Tahoma.

In this old thread someone was asking to increase the spacing.

This blog post says that it was increased, and suggests that it might be reduced again.

Confirmed.

I don't like this changes too... It makes most of the context menu looks gigantic.
But I kinda get used to it by now. lol

I don’t know for certain, but perhaps it is due to the size of the icons used in the menu items. You could try installing a different skin and see if it makes any difference?

No, I don't think that's the reason. My skins use 32 pix icons, but on menus they icons are reduced to 16 pixels regardless of which skin I use.

Using a font with a large x-height like Verdana, instead of a widely spaced font with small x-height like Calibri, will make a big difference to how the menus look.

I suppose the solution is to allow skinning of menus, but skin editing is already quite complex enough thanks.

I began this thread yesterday and wanted to add some here.
From the beginning right up to version 10.01 the spaces between menu items were tight.
By "from the beginning" I mean from Opera 3.x until 10.01.
I have been an Opera user beginning with 3.x throughout all releases including every beta.
After 10.01, beginning with 10.10 the vertical spaces between menu items were huge.
This has nothing to do with skins or fonts as I have tried gobs and the huge spaces are still there.
The space between items seems to be hard coded and not affected by anything suggested so far or anything that i have tried.
This appears to be hard-coded and unchangable by end users.
I'm really interested to hear from developers why this cannot or will not be fixed or cannot be adjustable for instance,
in opera:config
If the powers that be at Opera believe the menu item spacing is best as it is now, leave it as default just give us simple
way to tighten up the vertical menu spacing back to the way it has been traditionally, or even tighter.
These huge spaces are annoying on any size screen, becoming more annoying for those users who have alot of bookmarks.
The smaller screens of netbooks compound the annoyance.
Menu item vertical spacing should either be reverted to tradition or made a USER CHOICE like so many other aspects of the browser already are.
The huge vertical menu item spacing is most problematic in bookmarks/hotlist/favorites, but the extra vertical blank spaces are not needed
in any of the menus, imho. Thank You.
