Mail UID problem(?)
HiI'm running Opera 9.62 on MacOs 10.5.8.
A few days ago my ISP inadvertently disconnected my POP mail server. It has subsequently been fixed and I can see mails in a web based browser like Mail To Web.
Opera doesn't download the mails though. I set up logging. When I send the account a message I see the new entry:
<---snip-->
11487 UID137443-1217323523
11488 UID137444-1217323523
.
06:43:25 POP OUT: QUIT
06:43:25 POP IN: +OK Bye-bye.
06:43:25 POP IN:
06:43:25 POP IN: Disconnected
where 11488 is new entry for the email. However, Opera is not downloading it.
Looks to me as though Opera thinks its already downloaded msgs (I want msgs left on the server = I have 'Leave Msgs On Server...tick them' checked.
Can anyone help please? Is there any documentation?
Thanks a lot!
Ewan

In the mail folder, there's a pop3 folder. In it is a file for the account that keeps track of what's been fetched. Some/all entries in the file may be incorrect for some reason now.
In my testing, if you close down Opera and delete the file, Opera will re-fetch all the messages on the server (while honoring the "leave on server" setting for the account).
However, since it re-fetches *all* messages, you're going to get duplicates. But, the duplicates should all show up as unread so that you can differentiate them if you don't currently have any unread messages. If you do, you can add all your existing messages to a filter named "old" for example first.
The idea is to reapply any labels you have to the new duplicates and mark them as read as needed. Then, you delete the old duplicates as their ids will no longer be valid and permanently deleting them won't remove the corresponding messages from the server. Just be careful you wipe out the old copies and not the new ones. Also, for filters that don't have rules where you have to manually add messages to them, you'll have to restore the messages that were in them by dragging the new copies of the messages to the the filters.
Are *all* messages you have still on the server? If so, you should just be able to delete the pop account (which will delete all the local copies) and recreate it. You'd lose labels and read statuses for the messages. And, they would no longer show up in filters where you *manually* moved messages to. But, you'd have valid ids then. You'd also lose sent messages and drafts unless you export them first and import them back in afterwards.
Whatever you decide to do, backup your mail folder before trying it.
