University Email Does Not Work

I must admit that I am not quite sure if this belongs in here but I looked around and deemed this the best place to post. Regarding the actual issue, my friends and I have been having difficulties with our university email accounts on Opera for the longest time now. It takes several attempts to log in and even when we are logged in, we just randomly get logged out sometimes or we receive a "The custom error module does not recognize this error." message. As you can imagine, this issue makes it rather difficult to convert people to Opera at my university, especially since the likes of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome work just fine.

Since it's unlikely that anyone reading this thread has an account, it is not possible to try it out. You do not mention the version of Opera or OS that you are using. My suggestions are to check that you have all of the security protocols enabled, and, except for the first five 0 bit & Anonymous ciphers, all of them enabled. Preferences > Advanced > Security > Security Protocols and Details>>. When you are on a secure https page, there is a locked icon and the domain of the site to the right of the address. Clicking in that box or pressing Alt + Enter will show you the protocol being used. email.surrey.ac.uk is using TLS 1 and the 128 bit ARC4 (RSA/MD5) cipher . If these are not enabled, you won't be able to log-in.

Also, delete the cookies for this domain.

Unfortunately many versions of Outlook Web Access (OWA for short) don't work well with Opera at all. There is currently no known fix, I believe.

My University uses Microsoft Outlook Exchange Server as well. I've not had many problems but it looks like the version Surrey is using is newer.

My fix is to use Opera Mail (either POP3 or IMAP), the only problem being that labels don't work.
It was a bright, cold day in April...

I'll have a look, particularly if we have a few test accounts. One of the problems is that there is a number of different versions deployed. Anyway, thanks for the reminder smile

I just logged on and off my university email account at least 15 times and every single time was a success. Why? My geeky heart couldn't take it any longer and I had to download Opera 10.60 despite it being only in its alpha. I am glad that it finally works for it is one barrier to entry less for new users to deal with and it saves me some trouble too! I will check with some friends if it works for them as well but I assume that it will. Thanks, Opera Team!

One other thing to add is that the light version is for all non IE 6 plus browsers (sounds like :cough: hotmail :cough: )

At my school it is also outlook web mail:

https://webmail.fortlewis.edu/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://webmail.fortlewis.edu/owa/&reason=0 (I did not know the school could customize the icon)

I can make a web page archive of the page if you need it hallvors wink

Why Open the Web?

Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users. When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices. However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.
