How to make secure Google search default from the address bar?

Google has added https to its search page, so that one can search google securely. I wanted to make it the default so I simply changed the Google search URL in search engine preferences to https. The problem is it doesn't work, because now when I do a search like this from the address bar "g something" then I get an empty page.

What can the problem be?

Simply, go to https://www.google.com and make a new search engine (you'll have to delete the default one so that you can assign "g" keyword to this one).

Maybe it's some GET parameter sent in a Query String.

Thanks, it works.

It didn't occur to me to try this way, because I thought the same url parameters would work and I have to change only the http part.
