How does this keep happening? URL History Fail
I go to speedsolving.com multiple times every day and I go there by typing in the url. For most other pages Opera's URL history will correctly guess where I want to go, for example, if I type in "face" then it will automatically display "http://www.facebook.com", but when I type in the first few letters of speedsolving, I get some other site that starts with "spe" showing up in the URL history and I only visited that site like one time ever. Then once I get to "speeds" it will display lots of random threads on speedsolving.com but not simply "speedsolving.com", which is where I want to go.WTF? How can I fix this/what is Opera thinking?
PS - I minimized the bookmark portion of the URL completion feature and only use the history portion.

Odd. It works fine here an v10.53 on Vista.
What do you enter - "speedsolving.com" or "www.speedsolving.com"?
I tried both, and all is fine. I am also like you and don't use Bookmark Auto-complete, just history.
Check opera:config and type the word completion into the search box. This will now filter you down to three fields as follows
Addressbar Inline Auto Completion
Show Bookmarks In Addressfield Autocompletion
Show History In Addressfield Autocompletion
On my version of Opera, I have these as ON, OFF, ON

I think that initially this feature worked fine for me, it is just because of my large history that it is messing up now. I could clear my history, but that doesn't fix the issue of this feature giving weird results. Adding the www. or even http://www. yields the same results for speedsolving.com
I have the same opera configs as you mallen, but I am running Win7.
PS - on a different installation of Opera, the first thing that comes up in URL completion when I type "face" is some random person's facebook profile that I have probably gone to twice. The second entry is "http://www.facebook.com", the site that I go to via typing in multiple times a day. Thus, I don't think this issue is specific to speedsolving.com.
What's the deal?

What happens if you use the "x" to delete some of the bogus history results? Does this help? My guess is some corruption in some of the speedsolving.com entries in the list.
Looking in Preferences, I have my history at 1000 - which I assume is default. Also have a tick on "remember page content"... which is a weird idea and implies a rather larger data store somewhere that I never use. I'm going to turn that off now. Don't really want my web browser logging the content of pages I access.
I wonder if that database of random words is messing with your history? Try turning that off? (I know I am about to kill it on my PC as I don't want or need that level of data recording on here)

The X!!!! I never saw that before! That is definitely the fix for me, thanks
I too am now unticking "remember page content", nice, all I want is for it to log the URLs.
I am a huge Opera proponent, but I think that they should work on this issue. Both Firefox and Chrome are able to "predict" where I want to go much better (though Chrome cheats a bit).

"The X" is new to Opera 10.5x. And has been great for removing typing errors from my lists.
I too am a manic opera fan, but I see it in a different way. The history and predictive typing worked PERFECTLY in Opera - until the Devs started to mess with it to make it "more like Firefox"... which is when the Bookmark search appeared... and then everything seemed to go a little odd and unpredictable.
I am a great believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". And this is an example of Opera's attempt at "improvement" causing problems.
And before the Opera Zealots step in to pick points in my comments - this is PURELY my own personal opinion in a conversation with FrankL. Any of the zealots that appear and start whining, I'll assume your just trolling and I will ignore you.

Fair enough, I just want it to work!
BTW - I just realized that I have over 150 speedsolving.com URLs in my URL history and after deleting 20 of them I still haven't found regular old speedsolving.com, thus even with these workarounds my issue isn't fixed. Hopefully Opera will address this in the future/figure out what is going wrong.
I think I am just going to have to start fresh and clear my URL history.

Using some logic on this.... you may find there is a "viewed" or "popular" count that is setting the order of the list. And the forum posts are skipping up higher in that list because of that. Not much can be done about that.
Maybe use Speed Dial more. Or my answer is to use a combination of a personal bar and Nicknames. My Personal Bar is loaded with popular websites (made a little awkward with the current "no duplicate bookmarks" - which is a different rant for a different thread)
The other thing worth doing is setup "nicknames" on bookmarks. Many of my forums are on short codes - like "[H]" for "hardforum.com". That saves a lot of time. (Check Bookmark Properties for the Nickname field. This can then be typed into the URL Address Bar.)

Dang, I didn't think I could find any new features in Opera, but now it is two in one day, I didn't know about that nickname thing. How nice.
Update - after clearing my entire history, visiting speedsolving.com again a few times then also viewing a few threads, the same problem has popped up again, speedsolving.com doesn't show up as an option for URL completion, just the random URLs for specific threads I visited.
Doh!
