Searching inside pages impossible

Hi, guys.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 a couple of days ago (10.4 made my life a nightmare bigsmile) and I installed Opera 10.10. I look for 2 days on the internet for a solution without success. sad When I press Ctrl+F, I don't get the Find-window. I looked in the shortucts-section in the preferences and Ctrl+F was assigned to the FIND-fuction. I haven't touched any of the shortcuts nor changed the keyboard setup. So at the moment I'm unable to search inside documents/web sites that are opened with Opera. Ctrl+G works however although there's not point in using it, since I can't enter a word or a phrase to look for and all I get is an error message Could not find the text "Germany" O_O. Also clicking on Edit -> Find... doesn't do anything. I tried to add a button (from Appearance -> Buttons -> Browser -> Find) but it's greyed out and I can't click on it. Which means that FIND is not working at all. sad

Any help is more than welcome.
Cheers!

Ubuntu 10.04 is the closest to your setup that i've got. My suspicion is that the window is appearing but is hidden somewhere. You're using gnome right? I tried setting the main opera window to always on top, but that didn't hide the find window. It might in other WMs.

Try opening the find window from the menu. Then open a terminal and type in the following: xwininfo -name Find, ensure that the "Find" is capitalized. I'm assuming here that your interface is in english, if not the "Find" text will be different. In any case, it is the exact title of the window. Post the output from the command here.

If that doesn't work, try with a clean profile.

Also, have you used the "." and "," key finds (in conjunction with F3)? They're all that I use.

It's working now. I reinstalled Opera (kept the settings of course wink). I actually thought about the hidden window too but then again - "Find"-button was inactive. Usually, when you go for example over the "Opera Link"-button (by default it's on the bottom to the most left of the window frame), it becomes lighter to indicate that your cursor is pointing at it. In my case there was no change whatsoever.
I didn't know about the combination . + F3 and , + F3. Hopefully this problem won't occur again and I won't have to test with these combinations.

Thanks a lot for your reply. ^^
