Authentication Failure Error Message: How to fix?
I continually get the following error message when logged onto email client:***************************************************
Authentication failed for xxx
The server responded: authentication failed
There are two buttons
1.try again
2. cancel
******************************************************
What does this mean?

It means logging into the server failed, for some reason.
Make sure the server name, username, password, port, authentication method and TLS settings for the account are correct. Goto Tools (or O-Menu) -> mail and chat accounts -> select the account -> edit -> servers tab.
If fetching your mail normally works but does this off and on, it's probably the server having trouble and rejecting your connection for a second.
Is this with pop or IMAP? What email provider?
