Saving files from cache

I'm currently running Opera 10.54, after sticking it out with 10.51 until the new versions allowed me to use an old skin. !0.54 now does that, and I'm happy again.

Prior to the 10.3 release ( I think it was that) , i had created a shortcut on Windows desktop that led to Opera's cache. This enabled me to open the cache folder and select and save the files I had opened in the browser.

For example, flash files form the various 'tube' sites. By opening the URLs in order of the files wanted, Opera saved them in date/time order, which assisted me recognise what file was what. Obviously I had to rename them when saving, to "***.flv for later viewing.

As others have mentioned 10.3 onwards has a different file system for the cache which I'm yet to get my head around.
Keying 'opera:cache' into the URL looked promising and fancy. It delivers heaps of data, and looks quite complex, but I had to search al over the place attempting to locate files which didnt seem to all be there.

Is anyone aware of a simple way to interrogate and retrieve the cache files as per pre 10.3 releases?

Cheers to everyone smile

This subject has been the topic of some long, acerbic, and frustrating discussions in these forums.
It seems certain now that there will be no returning to the earlier format for cached files.

Fortunately, the freeware programmer Nir Sofer has created two tiny, portable utilities that allow you to filter, search and extract any kind of files from Opera's cache.

Here they are:

Opera Cache View and Video Cache View

Video Cache View also works with Firefox and Internet Explorer, btw.

Thanks Sawo. This works nicely with 10.10.
It doesn't seem to like 10.5*'s Cache structure even though I tried using D:\Program Files\Opera 10.5\profile\cache\g_*, but I left in the Temp folder and, after playing a YouTube vid in 10.54, there was the *.tmp of it in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp until Opera was closed - so yet somewhere else that Opera scatters files!
XP Pro SP3; 1GB RAM; Avast! AV; Comodo F/W; always the latest Opera!
