Basically another sexual sadist has dispatched another 3 women??!?!?!

Whats going on? We've had the Yorkshire Ripper, Fred West. Dennis Nilsen. And they're just the famous ones.

Another comparible case to the one in the news today was the Ipswich murders of 2006.


(England is a very small place)

It kind of struck me about the amount of heinous acts commited in England which is such a small place. Is there something in the water?
Every summer all the loonies come out.
Then at the weekend the badly burned body of Zoe Nelson was found. 17 years old.

I just wonder how the amount of heinous and despicable acts compares with other countries based on population and physical size of country?
Does this sh'' really go on in Europen countries as much?

Also, are these sort of crimes occuring more frequently and what can be done(if anything) to try and prevent them?

Nope, at the moment Mexico seems to be in the lead for this category. Type "Ciudad Juarez" and "woman" in a google search and look for yourself. I read somewhere that they have the dubious honor of being the most violent place in the world outside war zones.

Juarez is more violent than many places within war zones...the killing of the girls is no longer news though. It was ten years ago. Even five years ago it made headlines. Not any more. I couldn't even tell you if it is still happening.

I don't think his point was that a great percentage of our population are into "this sh''", but that higher percentage of us compared to our near-neighbours are; though it is an exaggeration to say the loonies start howling every summer - most of the famous ones did their thing back in the 80's and earlier. Steve Wright being the recent exception. I don't suppose you need be too defensive either since the crimbos in question are all Sassenachs and Troy reflects this in his post.

Do our neighbours have these problems? Is there a French, Polish, Dutch or Danish equivalent of these lunatics? Does the news of our serial killers spread beyond our own shores?

England's population between is estimated to be 51 million people (80+ million if you read the Daily Mail ), and we've had maybe 6 real headliners in the last 40 years (I'm guessing here, if anyone who really knows their onions on serial killers has a list of those who've made the front page of the nationals - now would be the time to post).
How many has Spain, for example (current population ~46 million) had in the same period?

I think that more crimes happen in other countries but sadly go unreported.

Well, it is the country of everyone's favourite serial killer who went after prostitutes too
