Windows 7: Zip files won't open automatically
Using Opera 10.53, on Windows 7, .zip files won't open automatically on either of my PCs. This worked fine in XP.This is what I mean: When I download a .zip file, I get the dialog that asks you to Open, Save, etc. I select open. Once it's done downloading though, it doesn't open - it's just waiting there in the Downloads window for you to do something. If I go there and double click the file it works fine, but I'd like this to work like it did before.
Note that this is only for .zip files - exe, pdf, rar etc work fine.
It doesn't sound like an Opera issue.
ZIP files aren't supposed to open in a browser instance, when you download them they should open with whatever compressed file software you're using; WinZIP, 7zip, WinRAR etc.
Not all compressed archives will open with the Windows native compressed file tool.

I can confirm this behaviour with Windows 7 64bit + Opera 10.53. I am using Windows native unzip tool and with "Open" command on file transfer window it starts to download but then ready, nothing happens. I have to go to Transfers tab and double click the file to get it to open properly.
When I download a ZIP or RAR file Opera will place it into my default download directory, where it opens with (in my case) WinRAR, and as far as I know this is normal behaviour for any browser.
If I click a downloaded link within Operas 'downloads page' then WinRAR will also open it from there, so there's no dysfunctionality happening there either.
That said, Windows native compressed file handler is inferior and won't open all types of compressed archive, and Opera itself certainly isn't designed to handle these files on it's own account.

What application does it say it is trying to open the zip file with? Does the zip file open properly if you double-click it in the download window and in Windows Explorer?

1. Right click the file and choose "Open With". If a sub-menu appears, please click "Choose Default Program…"
2. Click "Browse…" button. Browse to "C:\Windows" folder.
3. Find the file "explorer.exe" (it sometimes will show as "explorer") and click "Open".
4. Make "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" selected and click "OK".
