Being an Aussie, I'd love to say that we'll make a good showing, but that's totally unrealistic considering the very tough group we're in. I'll be satisfied if we get to the second round. Scrap that, I'd be DELIGHTED if we got to the 2nd round.
You have to say that Spain will win it. They're an absolutely class unit and have an immense understanding of each other as a team. Brazil is everyone's 2nd favourite - I'm not so sure about that one. For once, they have a tough group and I don't think they'll make it to the semis - that's just a hunch though. Italy is my 2nd team, having Italian family. However, the years have taught me to expect the worst of them, so that they surprise me in the end. But particularly after their weak showing at the Confeds Cup, I doubt they'll get past the quarters.
The Netherlands is my dark horse. They can't really be a dark horse since they're ranked 3rd in the world, but nobody is talking about them at all like they're a threat. They have a good run-in, just with the possibility of meeting Brazil in the quarters I think, and they wouldn't meet Spain until the final. They've got unbelievable players - Van Bronckhorst and Heitinga at the back, Van Bommel and Sneijder and van der Vaart in the midfield, Huntelaar, Van Persie and Robben up front. Their best team in years.
