Sluggish text highlighting + right-clicking on it

This happens fairly randomly, as far as I can see.

Problem:
When highlighting text with the cursor, and then right-clicking the selected text, the wrong menu (the one when you click on whitespace on the page) sometimes appears where the "Copy, Copy to Note, Speak, etc." menu is supposed to appear.

Version information

Version 10.53
Build 3374
Platform Win32
System Windows XP
XHTML+Voice Plug-in not loaded

Browser identification

Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/2.5.24 Version/10.53

Difficult to fix bugs if they cannot be reproduced. Are you sure that you're clicking on the highlighted text?

I know, but it is difficult to give instructions as to how it can be reproduced when it seems to happen randomly.

As for your question, now that you mention it it can very well be that I am not clicking on the highlighted text, which would explain the randomness of it. The thing that makes me doubt this, however, is that it has only recently started happening to me as if "out of the blue". There is always the possibility that my aim has worsened, but I highly doubt that.

I do not remember how older versions of Opera handled this. Did they always bring up the "Copy, Copy to Note, Speak, etc." menu when text was highlighted, or did they handle it as the current version does? That would explain why it seems to have started happening only recently.

Clean your mouse and see if the problem goes away. Nothing has changed that would affect this AFAIK. Perhaps you have installed something else — User Javascripts might detect right-clicks.

I encountered this error several times too. Using 10.53 build 3374.

Same here. Also when the cursor is over a hyperlink and the hover state should assure me the correct dialog will appear.

I managed to get a screenshot of this happening: wrong-menu-on-right-click.png.

... and they said I was crazy!!! Lol, just kidding.

And no, I have no user JS or anything like that installed... unless it installed itself without my knowledge, that is.

Still not able to reproduce at that site or anywhere else.

As long as the tip of the cursor is on the highlighted text, the right menu appears. If the bottom end of the cursor is over the text, then you will get the wrong menu. That is by design as far as I know.
