Disabling search in the address bar
Hej folks,I'm running opera 10.54 build 6340 on 64 bit slackware linux.
Is there a way to -remove- the search entry in the address bar when you type something?
Often I want the first thing in my bookmarks or history that matches what I typed, but now I have to skip over search every time... I find that quite annoying.
Thanks.
I'll second that. I thought the multi-search search box was perfect as is, and I miss it. I made heavy use of it, especially Google, find in page & wikipedia. I like to see what's going on in the address bar, so for me the change took something I use many times an hour into something I will only use when I absolutely have to. Does anyone know of a widget that emulates the old search box?
In the 10.53 address bar I have to enter yahoo/ (not yahoo) in order to prevent a google search. And if I enter yahoo and use Ctrl+Enter then there is no google search.
But here is what I did to restore Operas previous default functioning of the URL address bar:
1) I edited /defaults/search.ini and /profile/search.ini and set UNIQUEID=[I blank it out] for the search engine that is currently set as the default search engine (usually Google). This might also have to be done to a search.ini file in a locale folder.
2) In operaprefs.ini, I deleted the line that begins with "Search Type="
Done.
My URL address bar now functions as in previous Operas and the handy auto-complete function now works as I configure it.
When I want to search history or use a particular search engine via the address bar I simply prefix the query with the search engine key word (letter) as before.

UNIQUEID=(I blank this out) In other words, the ID number is simply removed.
