Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews broken

Opera worked perfectly until a few days ago, I think it was after an update for Windows 7.

The problem I'm having is with the Windows 7 thumbnail preview feature on the taskbar, i.e. when you hold your mouse over the Opera icon on the taskbar it's supposed to show you thumbnails of all your open windows. It's showing thumbnails but it's not showing their contents, instead it displays the Windows loading icon in a white screen.

Coupled with this problem is also that whenever I launch Opera, I get a popup from UAC asking whether it's OK for Opera to make changes to my hard drive. I also get a UAC popup whenever I click a link outside of Opera (Like with my Twitter client, Seesmic Look).

I've switched UAC off and that gets rid of the problem, but I don't consider it a long-term solution as I actually have found UAC to be useful. I've also tried reinstalling Opera to no effect.

Has anyone else encountered this and is there a solution or do I need to file a bug report for Opera?

I don't know if this helps, but you can try:
1. Go to opera:config#Use Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnails
2. Uncheck this option
3. Save changes with Save button
4. Restart Opera

5. Do steps 1-4, but check the option at step 2

I just tried that with UAC on and it did the same thing as before. Am I the only one having this problem?

Surely no: http://my.opera.com/deutsch/forums/topic.dml?id=556731 (same problem reported on German forum, but no solution found yet).

OK, well I'll try and monitor the German forum too to see if they come up with a solution. I don't speak German, but Google translates it to some rudimentary English. If anyone finds a solution or has a suggestion, please post it here.

Much appreciated.
