Hold shift when clicking, and ctrl to open it in the background.

Not to mention the ability to right-click a bookmark in the drop-down menu to access options (rename, delete, etc.) for it as if you were in the bookmark manager. I am not an Opera developer, so I don't know (and couldn't find in a quick search) the reasons why the developers don't want to implement it. I get the feeling it's a performance issue that would be raised by such a large change to the inner-workings of the menu, but do not know.
