There are loads of threads asking for opera to be multiprocess, but the reasons are more for stability processes and these days, Opera is one of the more stable browsers. Certainly more stable than Chrome and Firefox for me at least.
How this is meant to increase security is a bit more of a stretch though. Please explain.

A browser running in a "sandbox" mode would, in addition to giving each tab its own process, prevent those tab processes from having access to areas of the computer where they have no business.
From Wikipedia's Chrome article:
Following the principle of least privilege, each process is stripped of its rights and can compute, but cannot write files or read from sensitive areas (e.g. documents, desktop) [...] for example, malicious software running in one tab is supposed to be unable to sniff credit card numbers entered in another tab, interact with mouse inputs, or tell Windows to "run an executable on start-up" and it will be terminated when the tab is closed
