Opera uninstaller: improve it, please.

I really love Opera browser, however I'm "forced" to use uninstaller a bit often, because some bugs/glitches could be fixed by clean installation only.

During all major updates I do a clean installation (am I stupid?). Then I copy my data (bookmarks.adr, wand.dat etc) and configure the new version again. After that I use the new version for a few days and then I remove the old version (with old data which was already copied).

Also, the suggestion of clean installation is very popular in Russian forums and it really resolves many issues.

One thing in uninstaller is a bit annoying: it doesn't remove user's profile so people have to uninstall program first and then delete profile's directory manually (Uninstall and install doesn't solve problems). It's not a big deal for me, but many people just don't know where the browser's profile is located so they have to dig in forums for making this step.

Also, keeping personal information after uninstalling the program is something like security issue. Many users don't expect that they have to remove something (with private details and passwords!) after they uninstall the program.

I understand, that very important data is stored in profile (bookmark, passwords etc) and if all this data will be removed silently during uninstallation, other bunch of people will be very, very angry.

So, my suggestion:
I would like to see in uninstaller one additional checkbox "I'd like to remove my bookmarks, mails, passwords and all browser settings"
This checkbox must be unchecked by default so by default all will work as before.

However, when required it will be possible to remove all browser's stuff without using special low-level driver "hands.sys"

Thanks.

However there are lots of installers, on best is CCleaner, once you removed Opera it also removes Registry Entries.

Yes, I know.
However, I still think that good program should have good uninstaller as well. Even if the developers don't like the idea that somebody will uninstall their good program.
Also I think that developers know how to uninstall their program in the best way (without scanning all drives and registry).

Yes, the uninstaller does only a partial job, and quite a poor one at that. Something has corrupted my browser, as when I click on thumbnail images in some websites an Opera dialog box appears asking me if I want to set my homepage (this was after testing v10.6, which didn't update v10.53 - but left it there and clearly corrupted something in the v10.53 browser core) and a standard uninstall and reinstall does not solve this annoyance.

It means digging through my directories to find everything that Opera 10.6 may have written/altered doh

+1 with OP. Opera should offer us the possibility to delete all its data when uninstalling. I often uninstall/reinstall Opera (beta testing FTW bigsmile ) and it's a pain to manually remove the remaining data.

I'm a huge fan and user of CCleaner, but it doesn't delete the hidden folders let by Opera. And if you want a clean new installation of Opera (in order to solve some problems for example), the only way is to before delete the two hidden remaining folders.

This is something I wish every program uninstaller did, I've only come across a few that actually do.

Seems to have been mentioned here as well.
