if new message is already downloaded at the same time opera is shows little
popup window(in the right down corner), (before crash there was like 2 new message, etc.)
with notification now no new messages received(...), but actually there are new messages.
second think connected to that is, the sound is not working any more
(play sound when new message arrive)
i check all thinks twice and dont have idea where is the problem,
i also downloaded and installed new version (10.53 for mac)
pleas help.

Welcome to the My Opera community!
So, you have three problems:
1. A new mail notification pop-up in the bottom right doesn't pop up when a new message comes in if there's already a pop-up showing from a previous message that came in.
2. "Play sound when new messages arrive" isn't working.
3. There are new messages on the server but Opera ignores them and doesn't fetch them etc.
Is that correct?
Is this with a pop3 account?

ok, i agree, normally its working like that,
but now when no message where fetched before,
and only 1 message is being fetched theres no pop up and sound ;-/
ad2.
what you mean? isn't working generally ?
ad3.
yes, there are new messages and opera correctly fetch them(doesn't ignore)
its regular pop account
maybe you have other idea?
thx in advance

Those were not answers, but questions. I need clarification on what problems you're having as I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you mean.
hello everybody,
i guess i have the same problem and might be able to describe a little more precise....
windows7 64, opera 10.53, hotmail.de mail-account, pop3
operas mail client used to display a tiny mail-symbol upon its standard tray-icon when it downloaded new -unread- mails...
about a week ago this notification disappeared for no reason i can figure out.
mails still be downloaded and send correctly, but there are no notifications -such as the symbol in the sys-tray, sounds or the popup-window in the right lower corner- displayed
when i open the mail-management sidebar, everything is displayed as usual but i wouldn't exactly like to have the sidebar displayed all the time
i guess deleting opera and install it again afterwards would fix the problem.. but i hope, that there might be a better solutuion
please excuse my -probably terrible- english, i'm from overseas
kind regards,
m

Thanks mschwitalla. I see now.
First, I would check operaprefs.ini with a text editor (while Opera is open and then closed) to see if "Show Notification For New Messages=" is set to 1. If it's not set to 1, while Opera's closed, change it with a text editor and save the change.
Then, in accounts.ini, make sure "Sound Enabled=" is set to 1 and make sure "Sound File=" is set to the correct path. C:\WINDOWS\Media\notify.wav for example.
See Help -> About Opera for the locations.
Also, under the incoming tab in the account's settings under O-Menu -> Mail and Chat accounts, make sure that "check for every" is checked and make sure "include when checking manually" set checked.
Finally, I think Opera does some time of optimization where if you have the mail panel open and Opera's window focused, notifications won't show (as you wouldn't need to see them as you're already looking at the mail panel), but I'm not 100% sure.

Sorry, I have similar problem but I cannot find operaprefs.ini and accounts.ini files to check them. Tell me please where they are. I've searched my drives and looked at Opera files in Program Files folder and could not find them.
Thanks,
Jack

But, you have to show hidden files and folders.

Tanks burnout,
It looks I will be sending more posts...
Found the files, thx. Actually I am interested in sound notification only so I have checked accounts.ini.
All my accounts have Sound Enabled=1 and "Sound File=" is set to the correct path, but it still doesn't work. I suspect it worked at the beginning - a couple days ago - but I cannot be 100% sure as I was running both Opera and Thunderbird open (Thunderbird often played the sound randomly, hence I cannot be sure whether it was Opera that was notifying me).
Now I am running only Opera and I cannot hear any notification.
Thanks for any further hints.

Just want to add a bit more info. I had the same problem and it turned out even thou the "show notification for new messages" option is checked, somehow Opera stopped executing it somewhere along the line (during auto upgrade maybe?). I simply unchecked it, clicked okay, then rechecked and clicked okay again. Now it's working.
