Is it possible to get a legal version of UNIX for Opera?

I have ben to UNIX.org but all they want me to do is read about the software, instead of letting me download it. Can some one direct me to the wright website to download a legal version of UNIX? I would appreciate it if someone can help me out with this.

UNIX per se is kinda dead, but its descendents are FreeBSD, Solaris and Linux in many-many versions. UNIX here refers more to Linux/BSD (Solaris support is dropped).

Some details here:

DistroWatch http://distrowatch.com/ is a good resource to compare the distributions.

UNIX for Opera? UNIX is the operating system, Opera is a program.

I think he meant a copy of 'UNIX' to run Opera on p
Either way, I doubt he has access to anything that the last AT&T release would work on. Never mind the fact that Opera wouldn't run on that anyway. And the fact that Opera dropped the only UNIX-certified OS it ever supported doesn't help either.

So, for the OP - these days UNIX is not a single operating system but a standard and a certification. UNIX-certified operating systems are for example Solaris, AIX, HP/UX, IRIX - Opera up to 10.10 runs on Solaris but none of the others. You can download Solaris here.

That isn't actually true.

Not that I am suggesting that MacOSX is free or that it is what he is looking for. p

Oh, so they finally got the certification for Mac OS X Server.

Never mind the fact that this only applies to the server variant anyway. Have fun running Opera on a headless Xserve p

What makes you think it is only the server version?

The previous version Leopard was certified as well back in 2007. So it has been three years.

Indeed it did but I edited it (but before you quoted me! wink ) to point to a better page. It used to say it on both the server and desktop page but they cut down some of the info on the desktop page, probably because their thought most of their desktop users wouldn't care. However, UNIX certification counts for both server and desktop.

I see that some of the regional versions of apple.com still have the old page:

I dimly remember they were going to certify only the server version ( for obvious reasons ).

Probably because they got some flak for prattling on about UNIX before they had the certification for any version of OSX.
