I haven't seen your post before, but I posted yesterday a bug report about that (concretely about Address Bar not loosing focus in Speed dial).
DSK-301664
Summary: Address field doesn't loose focus in Speed Dial
Steps to reproduce
===================
1. Open any page
2. Open new tab (address field gains focus)
3. Press Esc or click on a Speed Dial page
Expected result
===============
Address field loses focus.
Actual result
=============
Address field doesn't loose focus. Result - you can't go to previous/next tab with single-key (1,2) shortcut.

You should be able to take focus out of Address bar with pressing Esc button. If you do what you wrote - the Search box gains focus instead, and you still can't perform an action I reported as actual result (go to previous/next tab with single-key shortcut).
