Opera Mini Vodafone version

Do you know about the Opera Mini Vodafone version (or the Vodafone 360 Opera Mini)? I didn't know anything about it until I visited the Opera Mini mobile site. I live in India and my mobile service is Vodafone.
When I visit the OM mobile site (
mini.opera.com), the page is directed to this site (mini.opera.com/vfg5). It says that OM is optimized for my mobile phone and provides a single download link (and its unsigned). The application is named 'Internet' and has a blue globe icon. The vendor is shown as Vodafone instead of Opera Software ASA.
The app has a different splash screen (includes VF logo). The best and the most astonishing part is that it supports widgets! This feature isn't included in the OM version which is distributed over the www. But, the app takes a longer time to load than OM.
Now, the thing is that, though all this seems quite legal (Opera must have some deal with VF, I guess). Opera should have provided the links for downloading its standard version. Moreover, the VF version is unsigned.
Why such approach by Opera?[/FONT]

How could I download this special version? I'm going to the address you've provided (mini.opera.com/vfg5), but I still get the regular OM.

Also, what kind of widgets is it? Any screenshot?

Thanks!!

You want me to change my network operator to do that! Isn't that a little overstatement?

I haven't seen any publicity of the VF version on the web. So, I'll upload a few screenshots about the app incl widgets for you to check. I'm kind of busy now, so I'll upload them in a couple of days...

And, I use Sony Ericsson K810i which has SE JP7 OS. The app supports this OS, so I think it must be supporting a lot of phones.

Here are the screenshots. There aren't many interesting widgets developed for OM at the moment. I've displayed only 2 of them: Facebook & The Guardian Tennis.

The site is the same as http://widgets.opera.com. Too bad all the rest of us mortals can do is to download the widgets but can't run them.

Sorry. i didn't want you to change your network provider permanently. just to download mini and then switch back to voda.
you could do with your friends sim.

thank you for the screenshots

My question still remains unanswered. Opera hasn't publicized about this version (probably, the feature of widgets might be included in the updates of the next standard version). Opera compels the VF users to download only the VF version which is a bad approach.
And, its strange; Opera behaving in such a way.
Secondly, is it possible for me to download the standard version from any other Opera's mobile site? I'm asking for the standard version, because, the updates for these 2 versions would be different. And, I mostly use the standard version of OM.
Is it possible to download a signed version of OM on computer and then transfer it to phone via USB cable?

I think it does violate their terms and conditions on that particular version as the vodafone version is purposely designed by opera only for vodafone for business reasons.

I would like to suggest opera that they should also do the same agreement with leading service providers of countries. Like in india most percentage of mobile internet users are from airtel n not vodafone.

I guess, now my only option is to use the unsigned version by downloading OM on PC and then transferring it to mobile phone.

I think, Princeroyalkin is right. OM must have made a deal with VF. If it is made online freely, anyone would use it thereby making the VF deal redundant. As I said earlier, the only thing I dislike is that VF or Opera or both compel me to download only the VF version (must be due to their agreement).
But that is only 1 small dislike amongst the many likes for OM! wink

Connection via Vfomi proxy is active only in countries where Vfg permits and thats why m.opera.com/vfg is not for public use. For a simple test vfmini.vodafone.com/adl/Internet is the dl link for om4.2 which use the same vfomi servers.

airtel. but lol they can't do so airtel has punished opera mini for deal with vodafone by banning opera mini on most of their plans in metros.

Actually this same vodafone version of opera corrupted the already prior inbuilt opera mini in my nokia s40. When i downloaded it my inbuilt opera mini became very very slow. I tried flashing my phone and everything but since then my opera inbuilt is non functional. It doesnt open. This vodafone version is buggy and unstable. I wont use this ever again.

Well, ajnx999, my service provider is Vodacom which is afiliated to Vodafone. Even here when you visit m.opera.com you are redirected to a vodafone-customized opera mini. Originally it was 4.2 but later was upgraded to 5.1. Yes, it is unsigned. But here I do not have problems accessing the standard opera mini versions by opening "other dowload options". So I am not tethered to vodafone customized OMs. I can still enjoy full freedom of choice.
