Could not find MIME-type "application/pdf"?

When I click on a link pointing to a PDF file and I choose "Open" instead of "Save As", I can only read text and not see the PDF file.

I have Windows XP, use Opera 10.53 and have installed the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I could not find MIME types "application/pdf" in Preferences, Downloads. When I check "opera:plugins" I find :

Adobe Acrobat
application/pdf pdf
application/vnd.adobe.xdp+xml xdp
application/vnd.adobe.xfd+xml xfd
application/vnd.fdf fdf
application/vnd.adobe.xfdf xfdf
application/vnd.adobe.x-mars mars
application/vnd.adobe.pdfxml pdfxml
C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins\nppdf32.dll

In folder C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins, I have the file "nppdf32.dll" !

I have also tried to repair/reinstall Opera and Adobe Acrobat.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Did you try adding it manually?

Try clearing the checkbox on the MIME types dialogue: "Hide file types opened with Opera."

I had the same problem and it couldn't be saved because it already existed and was associated with Opera. Pesala's suggestion should get you there.

Thanks, I can now see the MIME-type "application/pdf".

If it is currently set to open with Opera, you must click the radio button next to "Use Plugin" to see the list of available plugins.

Try moving operaprefs.ini from your profile folder (Help about for its location) to a temporary folder to reset your profile to the default. Something is clearly wrong since you have the plugin installed, but its not showing up. Or try installing PDF-XChange viewer and see if that plugin shows up. (It is a much better free viewer than Adobe Reader in many respects — smaller, faster, and more features).

I could not find the file operaprefs.ini with a search or in the folder D:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera\Profile....

I have also tried to install PDF-XChange viewer, but I can't still see any Adobe plug-in:(

Maybe I need to uninstall Opera and then reinstall Opera? Is there any links/help pages for how to do that, without loosing e-mail, favorites etc?

considering how much of a risk pdf downloads offer nowadays, especially on "drive-by's", i would recommend you change the setting from 'open with plug-in' to 'show download dialog'.
neatly stops any site pushing a malicious pdf and gives you the choice if you want to save it or not.

How would that cause the Adobe plugin to show up? What about the PDF-XChange plugin?
