Bookmark In Address Bar

I searched for this for about 10 minutes, but couldn't find it already posted.

I would definitely LOVE it if Opera would implement a button in the address bar to quickly bookmark a page instead of having to right click the page and hitting bookmark or going to the toolbar. It's just a feature I would like and definitely loved when Firefox first implemented it.

Correction: Opera invented the Bookmark Star (aka Highlight Bookmark) years before Firefox,
but removed in later version due to complains from some users.

Please search the forum for details.

I couldn't find anything on this in the forums (see op).

If that is the case, I'm asking for it back since it would make bookmarking much easier and quicker.

You can add a custom button next to the address bar that performs the action "Add to bookmarks". Although this isn't in the address bar itself, it's very close to where the star would be. And of course it won't show you whether the page is already bookmarked or not.

+1 This is needed!

There's no quick way bookmarking pages since we got the O-menu.
There are buttons which you can add, but this should still be in the interface by default!

+1 The quick star bookmarking feature is something I use all the time in Firefox. I don't understand the reasoning behind removing this from Opera. At least make it an option.

+1 for reintroducing the star. times have changed since it was there last (as you can see from the "I hate that thing" thread there was still the main bar enabled by default so there were a lot more buttons around) so its use should be reevaluated (at least in a weekly)

+1 to restore it as a button.

IMHO, the highlight bookmark function can be further improved:
1. Highlight ALL matched URL bookmark
2. Highlight ALL matched domain bookmark
3. Using different color star to indicate matched url/domain found condition.
4. Get rid of the NO duplicate bookmark feature.

Why not? wink I've got plenty of room on my address bar (which is hidden by default, recently, and I almost don't use it).

But I'd like the star to save a bookmark always to my main bookmarks folder, NOT last used one.

Edit: 2. It doesn't have to be placed in Address field, it can be a button next to Address field on Address bar, IMHO.

That star is quite useful, but you can try using Ctrl-D meanwhile wink

(Seems my previous post got lost...)

Bookmark Star as in Chrome and Firefox has the following conveniences:

- It is a single click.
- It lets you tell instantly if the page you are looking at is already bookmarked.
- It avoids multiple bookmarks for the same page.
- It lets you get directly to the existing bookmark and either change it or delete it.

I cannot conceive of why anyone would not want this. I cannot understand all the fuss about the space the icon takes up. It is just one icon among many. And anyway, for those who don't want any of the above conveniences, make it a checkbox-enabled option in Opera preferences. What I don't want to have to do is define mouse/keyboard shortcut macros for such an obviously-needed feature. I read through the posts by people who asked for the Bookmark Star to be removed -- were they 5th columnists from Google?

Put it back and I will happily re-install Opera across all my machines. And when you put it back, advertise the fact. I can't be the only one who gave up on Opera because this feature was missing. Its absence sounds trivial, but without it, managing bookmarks is so inconvenient that I gave up in disgust and went back to Chrome (which unfortunately does not run on my Windows 2000 machine so I can't have a consistent browser across all my machines -- and I won't use Firefox because it hogs my CPU).

PS I want bookmark sync. I either need to get it via Xmarks for Chrome and IE, or I need to get it by having Opera everywhere. I have had enough trouble with Xmarks that I will be happy to use Opera bookmarks sync even though it is not Xmarks compatible -- but it all hinges on being willing to use Opera at all -- and that depends on Bookmark Star.
