unable to configure Opera for my use, not for Opera's view of what I want
I am a very private person and I do not want to use UNITE, mail, facebook or other programs, and I like to have total control of my book marks. I am frustrated by not being able to delete built in bookmarks, Ask.com, Amazon, Wikipedia, etc. Also I want no history at all but can't seem to get it. I do research and want nothing left on this browser when I finish. Also on new version there is too much space taken up with the tool bars. I wish I could combine the features I want into fewer bars and not have to take up so much room. Is there a way to do this?
Ask.com, Amazon, Wikipedia are search engine, not bookmarks. Go to Preferences > Search tab, and delete what you want.
While you have Preferences open, go to the Advanced tab > History. Set the Addresses to '0' , and Disk cache to 'Empty on exit'
Toolbars can be customized, and/or hidden. Menus can also be customized. Look in the Customizing Opera forum.

really? tab bar+address bar+may be status bar = too much space?"Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all.Together we stand, divided we fall" (c) pink floyd

Huh! are you sure it's Opera you are using?
I think you should press F1 and read the manual.
Opera 12.16 build 1860 Windows Vista Premium SP2
