how to disable downloading of banners? not just disable showing them

hello

by disabling content in a webpage, it does not prevent them from downloading, it just prevent them from displaying
is there any way to block them totally? not even let them download?

thanks

The content blocker does restrict the page from downloading the content too
If it's already in your cache, it doesn't download it anyways bigsmile

block-external-scripts.js is also useful against banners

How did you figured out that Opera download content that has been blocked?
I don't think it does, I have run Apache, put two pictures in separate folders, created page with both of them, then blocked one. Then cleared the cache and reloaded page. Only one picture file has appeared in Apache log.
However, I wonder, how fast Opera downloads pictures when I am on the page where I have blocked content and open Block Content function
Use everywhere!

Add some offending URLs to /etc/hosts .

Search on google 'hosts adblock' how to do this.

This results that no browser or any other internet based application can access these URLs.

This is because the flash is added by the script. This script shows the animation even if the flash is not loaded.

Disable the plug-ins and javascript, and image with the animation will run forever.

I find installing a hosts file acts effectively at blocking ads and banners, including their placeholders.

Here's what I've been utilising, and it's a huge help at decluttering pages... cool
