Display images

When I receive newsletters it seems the images are turned off by default. I assumed that to view the image I had to click on the View icon on the right bottom corner and choose 'Show Images', but nothing happens the images are still hidden. What am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. The "display images" option refers only to images which have been sent as an attachment to the e-mail.

The images you are referring to are not sent with the email, they are links to images on the web. Although many legitimate emails include images like this, it is also a technique used by spammers to identify active e-mail addresses to target. To protect you from this Opera doesn't retrieve the images.

I've never come across a method for changing that, though I'm sure many people would want it. I know in many other email programs you can make an e-mail by e-mail choice as to whether you want to get the images.
It was a bright, cold day in April...

View button on mail toolbar -> Display -> uncheck "block external elements". Like said though, it's checked by default for a very good reason.

Yes, while I agree it's important to hide those contents by default it would be nice to have the option to turn it on just on the message I'm reading and not for all.
Thanks for the reply!
