Persistent redirections. Frustrating!!

Hello. I'm totally bewildered and frustrated by this problem. Hope somebody can point to some answer.

I've been to Poland for two months, and now, back to Spain, whenever I load the website www.skyscanner.net, the browser redirects me to www.skyscanner.pl sad(

I've emptied the cache five times, I've deleted all cookies in my browser. I've deleted all "site preferences". I don't have any preference or setting referring to Poland in any way. Then I've closed Opera down and I've gone to the .opera subdirectory and deleted, removed or erased all possible rest of any file cointaining the strings "skyscanner" and "poland" or even "pl". I've "phisically" deleted the .opera/cache contents.

To no avail. When I open Opera browser again and point it to www.skyscanner.net, again and again it redirects me to www.skyscanner.pl

Aaaaargh!!!

I think I'm going to go crazy. Where the hell is my Opera storing that information?

If I "remove" (actually rename it, of course) the .opera subdirectory and open Opera, letting it create a new subdirectory from scratch, then when browsing skyscanner.net I get redirected to skyscanner.es. That, I understand, as many other websites do: they "detect" your IP and guess your location. But if I use my "custom" .opera subdirectory, again I get redirected to Poland!!

Any clue? Any hint? Anybody pitying a depressed Opera user at the edge of suicide?

Thank you for any help.

More bewildering facts to this WONDER:

Fact 1: The aforementioned behaviour only takes place when Turbo is switched on. So, it's Opera Turbo related. When in normal operation (no turbo), typing skyscanner.net in the address bar redirects me to skyscanner.es, which is the expected behaviour. When Turbo is on, typing skyscanner.net redirects me to skyscanner.pl.

Fact 2: I've created a new user, with a totally "empty" home directory. I've opened Opera, I've checked the Turbo option, I've typed skyscanner.net and... (have you ever been at the edge of crying out of pure frustration?) and... it redirects me to skyscanner.pl !!!!!! :'(

Fact 3: Having several partitions in my laptop, I've closed down Linux (which is the one where all the above is taking place) and I've booted Windows (which I almost never use. I didn't use it when I was in Poland). In this Windows partition I also have Opera. I start Opera, switch Turbo on, type skyscanner.net and... Oh, Gods!, why are You doing this to me, your humble servant?... it redirects me to skyscanner.pl... Snif, snif!

I think I'm going to die if I don't solve this mystery. Where the f...ing hell does the damned Opera/Skyscanner duo get the idea that I want to be redirected to the Polish website? Which of the two is the smartass here? Opera, or Skyscanner? Are they "reading" my laptop serial number? Are they reading my NIC mac address? The only remaining thing for me to see in this life would be to buy a new computer, install Opera on it, try to open the skyscanner.net website and... be redirected to skyscanner.pl.

Does anybody here remember Odissey 2001? Remember how the on-board Hal computer knew the plans of the crew reading their lips? Well, this is kinda the same... except that my laptop doesn't even have a webcam!!!

Please, if any of you have a clue about how can I get rid of this "Polish" redirection, or -better yet- how OperaTurbo/Skyscanner retrieve the information for guessing my "location" preference, please, PLEASE, I beg you on my knees to give me some hint. I'll be your aeternal debtor, and for three generations my descendants will pray for you...

The Opera turbo feature works, because you tell an Opera Turbo server what website you want to see, it accesses the site, trims the stuff down, then sends it to you.

So if a site is doing location based stuff, it might well be doing it based on the Opera Turbo server's location, not yours?
It was a bright, cold day in April...

You can just type skyscanner.es instead of skyscanner.net. Is this a big problem for you? (If so, why?)

I guess enabling Turbo sends traffic through compression servers that happen to be in Poland.. This is a coincidence, has nothing to do with your trip to Poland (though of course back when you were there you assumed the site discovered your location, not the Opera Turbo server's)

I thought this was about persistent storage for a while.

I R test OK.

------------

Turbo on: www.skyscanner.net directs me to www.skyscanner.net

Why dont you try Choose your country at the upper right of that page and see if it drops a nice cookie for you somewhere on the HDD?
------------

Conclusion : Site uses IPtimation (IP estimation - What I want to invent words too) as It detected I was in the OZ. Operas compression technology does not change this (I tried a IP address lookup service and in both cases [turbo on and off] it reported the correct IP and Hostname

And...
+1 for Saskatchewan's idea.
