Help me get my Opera e- Mail CLient back please
I let a GF use my computer , and all of a sudden my The Opera E-mail Client dissapeared off my browser page. Theres no more email tabs , and I went to preferences and all the email tabs are faded out. I get this message in a pop up box when I open the browser;"There was a problem initializing Opera Mail.
Reading index.ini failed".
Im not very computer literate, so any instructions will have to be simple. I donlt undestand whatevers on the help page about how to try and fix it. Thanks.
P.S> I've tried deleting and reinstalling Opera Browser but the same problem occurs.

Is index.ini still present in the mail folder? (See Help -> About Opera for the location)
Did you close Opera and open up the task manager to make sure there are no other Opera processes running? If there are, kill them (if they don't close in reasonable time).
While Opera is closed, rename index.ini to index.off and then rename it back to index.ini. Does your operating system let you do that or does it say you can't rename the file because it's being used by some program?
Open up index.ini in a text editor. The contents should look like text with different sections with name=value lines etc. Is that what it looks like?
Have any anti-virus, anti-spyware, process monitors or network analyzers that could be interfering with anything?
Did your girl install any new programs?
Did you try restarting your computer?
Any recent power outages that caused the computer to not shut down properly?
Did anyone shut down the computer while Opera was open?
What Operating System and version are you using? What version of Opera?
Yeh, this won't work as uninstalling Opera and reinstalling it doesn't mess with your Opera profile files. They (including the mail folder) are left in tact during this process. So, if there's something wrong with your mail folder, uninstalling and reinstalling won't help. Deleting the mail folder probably will. But, then you'd lose all your mail for good.

Nothing happended out of the ordianry except she clicked some wrong button. Ive tried restarting the computer many times. No recent outages. I'm using ubuntu 8.04. and the latest version of opera. I dont know how to do anything you said to do. Guess I better look into having a tech stop by. How do I close opera and go inot to rename the file? I donlt know waht a text editor is.
Thanks.
Use Nautilus to browse to the the location of the mail folder. In Opera, see O-Menu -> Help -> About Opera for the location. Then, right-click on index.ini and choose to open it in gedit. What do you see?
Also, while Opera is closed:
Right-click on index.ini and check the permissions to make sure you have read and write access to the file.
Also, right-click on the file and rename it to something else and then back.
To see if any Opera processes are still open, load System Monitor and look for Opera in the list. If there are any Opera tasks, kill them.
