I wonder, is there any way to make Opera show a pop-up balloon when hovering over a hyperlink, so that you would instantly see what url that link would lead to?

Perhaps there is a hotkey for such a behaviour?

Solved. The url address will show up at the bottom of the Opera browser.

It just occurred to me that I can simply re-enable my bottom "bar" in the Opera browser. This is he little bar that has some buttons for Opera turbo for example, I had that hidden/turned off to save screen estate.

You could still have it turned of and use Show Tooltips instead.
Settings > Preferences > Browsing > select Show Tooltips.

That was clearly what I was initially looking for.
