Opera freezes on disk access

I've searched for this but haven't seen the exact same.

I run Opera both at home and at work and both places I notice that Opera can freeze completely on disk access.
If I copy a big file or extract the contents of a big zip-file Opera will more often than not freeze with a white screen and stop responding.
I can launch Internet Explorer, google the page I was browsing in Opera and open it in IE while Opera remains hung. IE, is slow while this is happening but at least it's working.

Both machines are running Win XP Pro with SP3.
Work-machine has 2 GB RAM and Home has 3GB.
Both are running dual core CPUs.

Work-machine is running a standard HD.
Home-machine is running 3 S-ATA disks in RAID-5.

Any suggestion on the cause of this?
I've tried changing priority on the Opera-process to high, but it has 0% CPU use while hanging.

Opera freezes sometimes on too slow machines. On my machine, in most cases it's sufficient to call the taskmanager or (sometimes) just right click the taskbar.

The home machine is my game rig and was updated less than 2 years ago.
I can click wherever I want and open task manager to switch to Opera but nothing works when it hangs.

As I wrote, CPU use can be at 0 to 1% and memory may have lots of free physical space.
The problem seems to be disk access.
