Opera redirecting a URL (Lifehacker Australia)

Hi,
I'm a bit mystified here and hope someone can shed some light on thia ...\

Since my last Opera update to the current version, (which is Version 10.53, Build 3374 for Win32):
If I enter a URL <http://www.lifehacker.com>, it redirects me to <http://www.lifehacker.com.au> (the Australian site). I am in Australia and I can understand Lifehacker wants me to access the local site, which I often do - - but the fact is that the US site is far more interesting and I do want to access it often.

OK. I used to be able to just back out the ".au" in the address and access the site ok - but now I just cannot access it, whatever I do. I get redirected every time.
Firefox does not do this to me. I don't know what the mechanism is so I really have no idea what I need to turn off in Opera.

Any suggestions from the browser techies out there?

Cheers
