Why constant reloading?

I am really getting pi**ed about this.

So often I go to a page and it just keep reloading, reloading, reloading, reloading...

I don't have this problem with IE, Netscape, Mozilla or anything else.

What's the deal?

Here's an example:

I didn't have a problem with it. Maybe it's because it's country music? j/k ;-)

How do you check the resource status in WinXP?...how do you increase them?

I know it's a different animal but w/256 Meg Ram the memory shouldn't be a problem.

With only 8G used on a 20G partition, and kept up with Diskeeper daily, I doubt a problem there.

Like I said....no problem with any other browser.

...just Opera.

I have WinXP and 192 Ram and do not have a problem viewing that page with Opera 6.05 or Opera 7.

Begin with your start menu, make sure you are only starting programs and routines that you need to start. Most programs you run will put themselves there, make them stop. The following stuff should be done at least monthly if you use your computer often, except for defragmenting your hard drives, they should be done weekly.
Scan your drives for virsus', spyware and adware. Delete the temp files and the secret hidden files that Windows keeps. Clean the registries, empty the trash and defragment the disk(s).

Not knowing much about your system I could only guess about what other problems you may be having. First guess, are your video drivers up to date?

You guys need to try out Startup Monitor. I'm telling you that you won't regret it. NOTHING gets past it!

On top of that, you'd be surprised how many progs and instances try to write themselves to the registry. Just because you stop the prog in msconfig, there's still other things from that prog that still get through.

I used to try like crazy to stop things from running at startup through msconfig. That's not all that effective.
I'm not only talking about the actual progs from starting up, this catches everything you can think of and you'd be surprised.

Trust me and try it guys. You won't even know you have it because it's a small footprint and it doesn't have an icon or sit in the system tray. There's only 2 options for it in the Start>Programs menu: On or Off

Startup Monitor

This happens in Linux too...so it isn't windows Resources.

Besides, I have 256M memory so it shouldn't be a memory problem. (I know resources are different.)

This is obviously an Opera problem...same problem 2 machines, 2 Operating Systems, plenty of memory.

Just a long shot, but is this happening all the while, or just after you connect to the internet?

The reason I ask is that the same thing happens to me, but only just after I connect. I have a FairADSL Broadband and after I have connected to the internet, it takes approx. 40 seconds for the connection to become "live", so I tend to keep clicking on reload for my home page until I start to get stuff.

I may be way off....

...but try to uncheck: Navigation->Reload Every->Enable.

Or set it to thirty minutes instead of 5 seconds.

Just to let you know that you're not alone, I had the same problem, am running 6.05 and have never had that problem before. Must be the website.

Yes I agree, this should happen if page have an HTTP header with a declared expire time.

Constant reloading at mp3.com happens to me too

You are definitely not alone, this happens to me with mp3.com pages too, but only recently. I think they must have coded something improperly when they did a recent major site overhaul, and it glitches up Opera causing it to constantly reload the pages. I first noticed it while visiting [url]http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/11/xylox.html but now it happens to me at just about any artist page or station at mp3.com. Solution: when I know I'm going to be doing any significant downloading/surfing at mp3.com, I fire up another browser (Netscape, which I don't like) just for that purpose.

I also have the same problem with the above mentioned website. However, I did notice that the page only reloads when your cursor is over the active window. I am not too concerned over the matter since I don't search for country music p:. I hope this info helps anybody solve the problem

I have no problems with it, I use Opera 6.05.
I think the problem may be caused by some malfunctioning JavaScript. Since I have the Proxomitron running, the script is killed before it hits the browser.

This has been discussed before and has come up before! It's a combination of Opera and the website. I can give a couple of examples just like the link you gave us.

For some reason there is coding that causes Opera to constantly reload when there isn't "enough" horizontal space. Try loading the page with the Hotlist disabled and if that doesn't work try it with the magnfication decreased.

I don't know if this problem exists with Opera7 Beta2 but it does with Opera 6.05.

Turn off JavaScript

I spend a lot of time there and had the same problem. Turn off JavaScript (F12 E (I love Opera)) and all is quiet. Although mp3.com claims to need evil JavaScript (like boats need barnacles IMO), I have surfed there for years with JavaScript turned off and don't seem to have missed anything.
