Image in html signature not displaying
Hi there.I'm trying to insert an image in a html signature but the image is not displaying. I do this using the "insert image" option; it asks me for the image URL and I insert a valid URL (not hosted locally of course).
Although the image is not displaying in the signature, for the sake of the test, I sent the email with the html signature to a webmail account of mine, and after analyzing the HTML source code of the email in the recipient, I noticed that the <img tag (that is suppossed to be in the html signature) is removed when the email is delivered.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug with this feature?
Thanks in advance
You're not supposed to have to do that, but images in signatures are all messed up and not feature-complete in Opera. This is known by the Opera devs. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the future.

So, i guess that you cannot add an icon or a logo in your signature -if this icon is located somewhere in your hard disc
Or am i wrong?

That's correct.
I didn't test, but you might be able to convert the image to a data URI and insert the data URI as the location of the image. Or, use the insert html option and use:
<img src="data:image/png;base64,.....">
But, it will fail to show if the recipient has a crappy client that doesn't support data URIs in HTML messages.

I tested. That works.
Tried using the signature editor's "insert image" tool, pointing the to my base64 encoded png string; tried using the signature editor's "insert html" tool to insert <img src=",....">; I've even tried editing the appropriate signatureX.txt with notepad... To me it appears that opera is stripping the IMG tag when signatureX.txt is inserted into the compose message text-box!

Do you remember if the image you inserted appeared in the signature editor when it worked for you? Or when composing a message? Or did it only show itself after sending a test email?
Cheers
I downloaded "10.70" (build 9067) and tried again but it is still not working for me, nor is it in 10.63 (10.64 above should have been 10.62 btw - typo). I have tried various combinations of bit depths (8,4,32) and image formats (PNG, GIF and JPG) all with no success. Methinks it is time to give up until it is an officially supported feature...
Kind Regards

Yes, I had missed that bit somehow
I've been known to rant about how people don't read carefully enough... seems I'm guilty of it too. Humble pie doen't taste all that yummy but I'm sure it is good for you...Cheers

although they exist in the file system

I use Linux, GTK nterface.
opera:config --> File selector: 0 (by default)

When choosing a different value (1 - QT or 2 - KDE) to select the files, another dialogue opens, but it is inconvenient because requires manually typing the file full path

And BTW, as you see, file filter shows in incorrect charset.
Welcome to the My Opera community!
I'm not running *nix, so can't check. But, you can file a bug, mention this thread in the bug and post the bug number here (minus the @... part). Once you have the bug address, you can send your screenshots to it).
Did you check this setting (http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=6896032) is working with Opera 11? Sorry but I did not see it.

Yep, the setting is there in Opera 11 and unchecking it makes Images in sigs work fine.
Did this get sorted yet?
I am using the latest version of Opera and while I understand all the advice so far the View / Display / Uncheck "Block external elements" doesn't seem to exist any more.
Any help greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
sam

Yes. Opera makes an exception for mail composition so that images in signatures show when composing (and when editing the signature). No need to uncheck Suppress External Embeds anymore.
thanks again,

Cheers for getting back to me burnout, but it still isn't working in any way at all. I have uploaded the signature image to an external URL and link to that in my mail settings. I can then see it in the settings but when I come to compose a mail it simply isn't there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
thanks again,
You're composing in HTML mode right?
Try it in a standalone installation to a folder on your desktop to see if it works there.
I am new to Opera and hadn't seen that option.
All the very best,
