Opera 7.60 Preview 3 for Windows available

Opera 7.60 Preview 3 for Windows is available for download. As usual, discuss the new version in opera.beta and in the my.opera.com Beta Testing forum. Please do not distribute the download link directly, but link to the post in opera.beta or in the my.opera.com Beta Testing forum.

Due to the experimental nature of this release, upgrading a previous Opera installation is not recommended. If you'd like to test your mail from a previous release with this preview, delete the \Opera\Mail\ folder, then copy your entire Mail folder from your old install to your 7.60 Preview 3 installation.

Download Preview 3:

http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/o760p3_7321.exe (build 7321)

=== Release Notes ===

- Use of the prefix "browser" is now mandatory for all voice commands.
- A detailed list of changes is available at http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/w760p3.html#important.

Good version! Thanks!
Couple remarks...
- I'd like to have an ability to jump through the Start Bar's fields with TAB key. Now it jumps only through URL and Google field. And when cursor appears in Google field - the Start Bar disappears.
- What about "old" tabs width, like in Opera 7.54? New tabs width looks bulky to me... Maybe it will become an option in ini file?

Anyway - good work! up

Don't forget about bug fixes. wink We all are waiting for them. wait

UPDATE

I've managed to make the proxy work. Two problems I've found;

1. The network settings don't work straight away. You need to quit and restart the Opera browser to make them work. *sigh* No wonder my fiddlings didn't work at first.

2. If one window is trying to reach an URL (either DNS or otherwise) and that resource is down/can't be found/is dead, then that window is unresponsive until it times out. No new URL in that window will cancel out the request with the new one.

Apart from that, it is really much much faster. I love it.

I agree... As "everything" else in Opera can be done from the keyboard, it's a bit annoying to have to use the mouse for the start bar.
Alternatively some shortcuts for each button in the start bar.

Oh, discovered one thing: In earlier versions (don't know about 7.60 pr1 or 2) the address field would stay active/marked if you hit <Esc> while a page was loading (e.g if you had written a wrong address). PR3 doesn't. I have to press F8 or click the mouse to activate the field.

Is this deliberate? I kind of liked the way earlier versions handled it...

BTW, thank you for the "Advanced MDI" up

Wow, it's pretty neat that you can kinda make your own toolbar in the page bar. smile (I didn't find that out until P3 came :embarrased: )
But, the URL bar is way to short, when you place it in the Page bar... how do you stretch it? (If that's possible)

the trouble with this, is you dont realise it until you need it.. then you find lots of pages opening... and only then do you realise why..

this is further complicated by the fact that you can 'shift-' & 'Ctrl-' drag and select easily enough..

7.60 has some nice additions, i really like the new Feeds menu which seem to work at last smile , but i miss the "Opera On The Web" menu under "Help"..
also better cookie management would be good, for example have a list of which cookies to keep and delete the rest upon exiting, or at least make it possible to select many cookies at once then delete them.. (currently you are able to delete only one cookie each time, and if you already have a big list, that's a real pain in the...hum wink )

Advanced mdi:

removes the Xs on the tabs

turns on the "left-click on tab = minimize tab: aka Focus last selected tab"

brings back the minimize, restore/maximize and close buttons in the menu bar that control the focused tab.

advanced mdi was pre-pr2 default, but was just called "prefer pages inside window"

Is it normal, that the javascript functions blur() and focus() don't work as supposed?
I just can't get rid of the border that is displayed around a focused input-button in an Popup-Window, neither by using blur() (or focus() to highlight another element on the same page).

Sorry for double posting but three remarks came to my mind just seconds after pressing the submit button.

1. I really do miss the reload-button in the context-menu of pages.

2. When does the ability to white-list pages for PopUps come?

3. Is there the possibility of a plugin/addon/callitwhatyouwant System in Opera in the future? Some kind of SDK.

Not certain what Frame --> Save as ... has to do with popup windows ...

A popup window generally you could just use File, Save as... with or without an address bar (plus you can turn the address bar on in the View menu, in Customize, or with Ctrl-F8). Frame, Save as ... - yes, I think it should be there, some pages will redirect you if you try to open the frame in which case you never get the frame content to save.

16. November 2004, 23:44:29 (edited)

It would be nice if you could drag folders of bookmarks to the new start bar to create a drop down menu of that folder. You can do that with the personal bar and the start bar essentially serves the same purpose.

Also, I think the start bar should automatically display when you drag something to the address bar (if the start bar is set to pop out from it). That would allow links to be dragged to it from the windows and bookmarks panel, and would make adding links to the start bar a lot quicker and easier.

I just downloaded and installed P3 over P2, so I'm keeping my setup as before.

However, by reading this forum, I realize there may be some things I'm missing:
- I read about a "Start bar" which I haven't seen anywhere
- I accidentally deleted the trash icon on the page bar (the one used to access closed pages) and I can't find a way to get it back!

I also noticed I can't access my GMail account via POP3: The website says it requires SSL when reading, but Opera just offers TLS. Configuring the port manually does not work either...

Besides that, I should mention that I feel P2&P3 much more faster than v7.54 (my default browser and mail reader so far), almost as fast as Firefox (BTW, I uninstalled Firefox a while ago: The betas worked just fine but the final 1.0 release kept jumping! Annoying...).

I also like the X's in the tabs, but also appreciate the Advanced MDI option just in case...

I'd like the View->Skin submenu back... it's much faster than going into the Preferences.

Good work, Opera devs!

ok... at gmail, i found that the links beside the messages "new window, print, collapse all and the ads" are either distorted or cannot be seen... i don't care about the ads but "new window, print and collapse all" are important.

oh well... both are still in beta.

gmail is working via pop at opera for me, i checked tls and set authenticate to "auto". incoming: pop.gmail.com, server is 995 and outgoing: smtp.gmail.com, server is 587. username: append @gmail.com

in opera 7.6p3,
where is "right click -- duplicate page"? i find this very useful from previous version.

Sorry, I didn't mean ad popups. I mean when you click a javascript link on a page and a new page opens, minus address bar, with the info. I used to be able to just right-click and save the page. It's a bit annoying, but Save As.. from the File menu will do.

AFAIK TLS1.0 is a successor of SSL3.0.

Start bar is a kind of toolbar that pops up under address field and holds buttons, currently back, top10 visited pages, bookmarks, home and search.

is meant to look like popup with list of matching links when you type an address.

How dis you install 7.60tp3? On top of a previous installation? If so, select the Opera standard toolbar and menu setups in Preferences. You can enable the Start bar by View > Toolbars > Customize...; and checking the option for Start bar in the Panels tab.

I installed over TP2.

I just did as you say... but I still cannot find any start bar option!

Under View > Toolbars > Customize / Panels I see the following checkmark items:
- Search

+ History
- Links
- Windows
- Info
+ Show panel toggle as a web panel

[+ = Checked
- = Not checked]

So... where is the Start bar option?

I'm getting a fair number of random P3 crashes, and it seems to occur more often in forum-type web pages, including this one. In fact, especially in the Opera forums, although they have occurred at other locations. This is on a clean installation and profile, with no apparent calls for flash or any other plug-ins. On two occasions since the release last Friday, Opera also crashed after waking the PC from power saver suspension.

For the record, the trash can (though you got it back when you disabled your custom toolbars anyway) ...

Go to Customize (either from the menu or by right-clicking on a toolbar and seelcting it). Now click at the right end of the page bar. A little square should appear, indicating the selected toolbar. Then go to Buttons, Defaults in the Customize dialog. You can either drag it from there, or click the button to reset the toolbar to its defaults.

Same applies if you delete the New page button on the left end.

Actually the start bar already appears when you drag anything to anywhere. It gets quite annoying.

That settles your problem quite simply.

Wow, the little trash icon in the tab icon is fantastic. And with Advanced MDI handling, I get the old window handling back.

That settles your problem quite simply.

The start bar doesn't appear when you drag something from the bookmarks or windows panels. It's hidden as soon as you click inside the panel, even if the toolbars are being customised. This makes it more hassle to add existing bookmarks and open windows to the p3 start bar.

edit: I've now found that this is only the case when the panel is floating; I can drag from bookmarks & windows when it's on a screen edge. This kind of inconsistency is definitely a bug, hopefully it'll be fixed in the final.
