Opera 7.60 Preview 3 for Windows available

Opera 7.60 Preview 3 for Windows is available for download. As usual, discuss the new version in opera.beta and in the my.opera.com Beta Testing forum. Please do not distribute the download link directly, but link to the post in opera.beta or in the my.opera.com Beta Testing forum.

Due to the experimental nature of this release, upgrading a previous Opera installation is not recommended. If you'd like to test your mail from a previous release with this preview, delete the \Opera\Mail\ folder, then copy your entire Mail folder from your old install to your 7.60 Preview 3 installation.

Download Preview 3:

http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/o760p3_7321.exe (build 7321)

=== Release Notes ===

- Use of the prefix "browser" is now mandatory for all voice commands.
- A detailed list of changes is available at http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/w760p3.html#important.

Here's a bug I've reported before but persists. I'm fairly certain that I've even submitted it properly, but in case I haven't, I'll do it again.

SDI Mode. Bookmarks. "Open All Folder Items".

Opens XX bookmarks IN ONE PAGE! (xx being the number of bookmarks in a folder -- my specific instance was 26). Not in XX separate instances of Opera as an SDI user would expect.

You can't close pages either, except by mouse gestures. You can /not/ minimize pages at all. (the down-left minimize minimizes the whole instance of opera). You used to be able to, when the minimize, restore, and close buttons were in the top right, but those are gone in this version.

While I realize the tax on system performance of opening 26 pages of Opera at once, wouldn't it be better to conform to the user's desire of SDI mode?
I have bought Opera because they have listened to the little guy. I may be the last SDI user, but I'm a happy user, now. BETA 8 FOREVER!

@havaard: Here's another way favicons are getting worse. One of my bookmark sites ( www.drudgereport.com ) has no favicon associated with it but has adopted the favicon of some newspaper whose link was on this bookmarked webpage.

Is there anyway to clear erroneous favicons?

Looks good, much better than P2. I was getting a little worried there. But I do have one simple request: Add an option in the preferences to turn off the web-style links in the panels, please.

Under Toolbars and Menus, I did see a checkbox for "Enable Hotclick Menu", I tried turning it off, but it didn't stop the web-styling. Maybe this is for something else I'm not aware of?

customize dialog (+show hidden):
If you are using 'show progressbar inside address bar' only the 'loading page' type bar will be seen.
- this has to be set to 'pop-up at bottom' so that the static address bar can be changed...

at present you have to OK out, then re-enter to change the right bar - and do it again for the other one...

can they *both* be displayed at once, or an 'apply' button be added?

also: Can the 'name' of the element being customized be shown somewhere??

I have attatched a picture of my top panels. But i cannot get it to make more than one line, even if i put wrap to multiple lines on, and i would really like to have some buttons for eg. bookmarks there. is this possible?

2)
Is it possible to allow pop-ups for a single webpage? Or maybe the blocked popup could be opened by clicking on the tooltip that shows when a popup is blocked? I love the trashcan, do not misunderstand me, but it can be a bit annoying to go all the way in and choose a blocked popup.

3)
Reopened popups opens in a new tab (good) but the tab is placed as the first tab (bad). Could an option be made to put the tab last, or next to the tab where the popup origined from?

Two things that annoy me most about Opera -

1. Bookmarks -> Bookmark This Page. It remembers the last folder I added a bookmark to and selects it automatically which is very annoying. I usually forget that it does this and so I'm left wondering where my bookmark went. How are you supposed to add a bookmark to the root folder? Once a folder has been selected, the only way (that I know of) to unselect it (so that I can add my bookmark to the root folder) is to resize the dialog until there is blank space below the list of folders and then click in that space.

2. If I leave a page that is only partly loaded (by clicking a link or clicking back for example) and then come back to it, it doesn't finish loading, it just stays in it's partly loaded state.

EDIT: Oh, and one minor thing - the popup blocked notification gets in the way of the tabs.

@Shinglor - There /used/ to be an "add page here" dialogue for bookmarks in the bookmarks menu, but that seems to have disappeared.

As a workaround, you could always add it to a random folder then go into 'manage bookmarks' and drag it to the root, but that's sort of a waste of time...
I have bought Opera because they have listened to the little guy. I may be the last SDI user, but I'm a happy user, now. BETA 8 FOREVER!

'Bookmark page' from a sub folder in the Bookmarks menu adds it to that folder.

The address field is designed to fill available space, adding extra buttons to the address bar merely causes the address field to shrink to adjust.

The solution is to add a special kind of spacer called a wrapper which acts like a line feed in text - it forces everything after it to appear on the next line.

So, right-click on the Address bar and select Customize. Go to the Buttons tab, click on Spacers, and drag a wrapper to the toolbar where you'd like the buttons to wrap (so that the first button after the wrapper will be on the next line).

Shinglor and Val,

The Bookmark page entry on the top of the Bookmarks menu should add the bookmark to the top level folder now. It's the Add-in-most-recent-folder item that is gone from the menu. However, that's still the functionality of some other buttons and the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+T. We plan to clean up those things before 7.6 goes final.

One proposal is to change Add-in-most-recent-folder to Ctrl+Shift+T and make Ctrl+T add the bookmark to the top level folder.

This is the way it's always been, IIRC. After all, fullscreen gets rid of the ads, and it's supposed to be a presentation tool anyway, so toolbars there don't make any sense.

@porneL: they have defined their CSS for the 'screen' medium ONLY, so the fullscreen=projection mode does not get any styles.

If the site wants the styles to work across all modes they must use media=all or no media limitation.

If Opera wants to mix fullscreen view and Opera Show feature it should have smart fallbacks implemented (like it does with SSR - uses screen medium unless page has handheld stylesheet).

Thanks for explaining the www.dailyrush.dk problem.

I do not understand why preferences should be ignored in fullscreen, I can understand the add issue. But if (read when) I pay for Opera i would want the preferences to be saved because i love browsing in fullscreen (with tabs). Fullscreen being a presentation tool is not the case for all users i am quite sure, though it does seem minimalism is a dead trend these days.
