Today’s Good News
Have you noticed that we usually debate only the bad things in life.Well, for a change, I thought I’d introduce this thread where anyone can put down current news that they think is good (can be political but not nasty, please, e.g. not Mr Bush catching a cold please!). We can debate the Good News and then move on when someone else posts some more happiness!
So I’ll start with this gem, which will brings tears of joy to many, I am sure.
Chocolate is Good for you
Yes – it’s official
Dark chocolate may be healthier
It’s good for a cough and it’s good for your heart.

You do know, RJ, that your view of us (and me) is mostly the result of your inferiority complex? And somehow OakdaleFTL, you live in a cuckoo world over there that has it's own prejudices even if yiou think you are the world's gift.
(Of course, if its justified, it's not really a complex, is it?) We certainly have our prejudices… That makes us different from eveyone else? And those who think we're "the world's gift" exist mainly in bad novels. (I'd ask you which you'd read but can't strain anyone's credulity that far!)Personally, I appreciate both your views and the mean means you emply to express them: You're remarkably sanguine for someone so uninformed and inept. When interesting topics, news, and cogent posts are lacking, you fill a void. No doubt, you're proud.

{I too suffer from something similar: I don't suffer fools gladly… In real life, I'm a paragon of virtue! Well, of Presbitarianism. But if they aren't outrageously offensive I let them be, without the benefit of my two cents worth. You seem not to understand anything rjhowie hasn't said; and you aren't too sure about him. Well, I don't blame you.}
But I'm glad I can make you laugh. (And if you wouldn't lift a pint with me –because you teetotal– I'd be happy to toss off two, before I talk to serious people…)
(You may begin to understand why I –and my ancient countrymen– despised democracy: Most people are stupid. Do you dispute that!? The problem we tried to solve is that most smart people are stupid, too!)
But your problems with the U.S.A. can be solved, by us becoming Scotland — in relation to who?

In other news Asian dollaradays outnumber their North American counterparts.Asia-Pacific millionaires outnumbered those in North America for the first time last year as the world’s wealthy saw a decline in their fortunes, according to a report by Capgemini SA (CAP) and RBC Wealth Management.
The number of individuals in Asia-Pacific with at least $1 million in investable assets jumped 1.6 percent to 3.37 million, helped by an increase in rich people in China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, according to the World Wealth Report released today. So-called high-net-worth individuals in North America dropped 1.1 percent to 3.35 million.
“While throughout the world the euro-zone crisis has affected markets in general and investors’ level of uncertainty, within the Asia-Pacific region we have seen strength in their domestic economies underlying their performance from an economic standpoint,” Gay Mitchell, deputy chairman for RBC Wealth Management, said in an interview in Toronto. “As such it’s yielded an increase in population for high net-worth individuals.”
The population of millionaires worldwide was little changed at 11 million, according to the report. Their wealth dropped 1.7 percent to $42 trillion of assets last year, the first decline since 2008, as the euro region’s sovereign debt crisis and lack of economic growth in the U.S. roiled investors.
Historic Good News for Northern Ireland, and Ireland and the UK.
The man does have blood on his hands.
The Sinn Fein/IRA had protracted discussion and internal argument on this and as to whether it should go ahead. They acted as if McGuiness was in some straosphere that put him on equal terms which it doesn't. Then those behind the scene did little dances so as to make things comfortable for the man. It was some kind of conditional thing that it would not appear as if he was acknowledging The Queen's Jubilee and grand tour. Instead it was to in an arts visit in the Lyric Theater. So much for his newsspeak. McGuiness and Adams took the salaries of a Westminster MP but refused to sit in parliament. They took big money and McGuiness espeically lived the good style. When he did visit London but not Parliament he went to the top swishy restaurants, etc. Now he has condescended to stand down from the Westminister seat and remain as an MLA in the Ulster Assembly.
There is no democracy in the Province. Everyone has to be in the government and virtually all parties so there is no official opposition. Farcical and all pandering to the gunman from Londonderry. One of the few remaining proper people is Jim Allister of the TUV. You might as well say that McGuiness and Robinson are joint ministers becuase they are joined at the hip. Just goes to show that sometimes, maiming, bombing, killing people (including your own) gets you places.
Neither should those not living here somehow imagine that the great pictures of The Queen's reception are coming rrom the McGuiness republican and nationalist camp for they are not. The crowds are Unionist crowds. You will not see such in West Belfast, Creggan in Londonderry, etc. One newspaper had a great cartoon showing Her Majesty putting on several pairs of gloves before shaking the McGuiness hand. Another in it's lead said it was time for the greeting to be made and I can maybe go along with that but it finished by saying they hoped HM was wearing gloves and burned them afterwards! Jaubro is very right. The man has blood on his hands. Not just that of policemen, and soldiers but ordinary Protestants and Roman Catholics. He is good with words this terrorist but then he knows he has no chance of getting the majority of Ulster to go into what he wants. And that is an-all Ireland Socialist Republic. The people in the South don't want that either I am glad to say. Good for them too. He knows that SF?IRA could not do what he wanted so instead develope an apparent sweetness and lightness.
It is good that most of the bad days are over but not quiteas always the remnants of the PIRA terror are still there in small and harder to get to groups living in the past. It is good that many more normal people are moving on and want peace but McGuinness as some kind of latter-day saint? Fantasy and don't make me laugh. As a senior figure in the Stormont Assembly, fair enough meeting the Head of State but let him remember he lives in Britain and time he damn well acknowledged that. The Shinners could learn from the greater majority of the people down South in the Irish Republic who want to have modern attitudes, thoroughly welcomed and enjoyed HM's visit and commnets whilst McGuinness and Co, do political choreography. The Sinn Fein have not accepted that the Irish people down South don't want their idea of republicaism or attitudes. The Queen, remembering that her uncle was murdered in the Irish Republic on a regular holiday there showed more honesty and morality that that murderous gunman ever did in his life.

Mississippi? I have to believe so, but think that more than vestiges remain.
Poll: Obama's a Muslim to many GOP voters in Alabama, Mississippi Reporting from Washington —
After years of battling false claims and viral emails alleging that he is a Muslim, President Obama hasn’t gotten far among Republican voters in Alabama and Mississippi – about half still believe he is Muslim and about 1 in 4 believes his parents’ interracial marriage should have been illegal, a new poll shows.
On Alabama, 57 years ago I sat in a Navy base movie theater with buddy who hailed from Alabama. The front center section was reserved for officers, among whom sat a Black junior lieutenant. My friend got red in the face and hissed, "There's a nigger in the officer's section!" I responded, "He's an officer." I won't repeat what he said next. He wasn't stupid; he was just from Alabama.
One of our posters, thedawgfan, is from Mississippi. He will have a better idea. Sports teams from the University of Mississippi are "dawgs".

Wonderful!
We get an awful lot of rain in the northern part of the Kingdom Jaybro and the South and Southeast of Egnalnd (as in some other parts) gets normally very little. It was even suggested that we "export" some of our abundent supply to our English cousins but easier said than doone. If it rains today on my event expect trouble Jaybro.

In other good parential news, two child trafficking gangs in China are supposedly "smashed", releasing 181 children. The police and the government may have played their part, but really there are two technologies that start to stack the game against the criminals: the Internet and DNA testing.
I disagree with the article writer that the one child policy has much to do with this, this phenomena pre-dates that policy, quite likely pre-dates the People's Republic. It is hard to say if the number is increasing or decreasing because to this date there is no reliable statistics. Slowly China is getting to have as close tab on its citizens as Western governments have on theirs, but there may still be hundreds of millions that are pretty much under the radar.
