Today’s Good News

Have you noticed that we usually debate only the bad things in life.

Well, for a change, I thought I’d introduce this thread where anyone can put down current news that they think is good (can be political but not nasty, please, e.g. not Mr Bush catching a cold please!). We can debate the Good News and then move on when someone else posts some more happiness!

So I’ll start with this gem, which will brings tears of joy to many, I am sure.

Chocolate is Good for you

Yes – it’s official

I found Dostoevsky's "Notes from the Underground" at Gutenberg today.

"I am a sick man.... I am a spiteful man. I am an unattractive man. I believe my liver is diseased. However, I know nothing at all about my disease, and do not know for certain what ails me. I don't consult a doctor for it, and never have, though I have a respect for medicine and doctors. Besides, I am extremely superstitious, sufficiently so to respect medicine, anyway (I am well-educated enough not to be superstitious, but I am superstitious). No, I refuse to consult a doctor from spite. That you probably will not understand. Well, I understand it, though. Of course, I can't explain who it is precisely that I am mortifying in this case by my spite: I am perfectly well aware that I cannot "pay out" the doctors by not consulting them; I know better than anyone that by all this I am only injuring myself and no one else. But still, if I don't consult a doctor it is from spite. My liver is bad, well--let it get worse!"

That's the opening paragraph. Have fun.

A new pill said to be the first of its kind in use has been released for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. The pill is set to replace injections for early treatment of the disease. It is not yet clear (to me) whether it will be released on the UK NHS immediately since the cost is rather high (reported as £20,000 per year per patient) but I imagine it will be.

You go for the kites Jaybro. My first kite as a wee laddie was when my father made one out of canes, newspapers and cellotape (and of course string and bits of pare in bows). Crivvens, I was as happy as if I got some top of the range thing from a posh toy shop. Great fun, costs little and out in the fresh air.

Dash it. I forgot to remind Sanguinemoon that two Sundays ago, Celtic came to Rangers staium thinking they were on a ascendancy roll and instead the "blue noses" gubbed them. They (the lot from the East End wnet away with their ribald posters and banners( left kind of subdued). And yet again their fiery manager gets into trouble and banned to the terracing. Considering the way the Celtic fans were crowing Rangers played a blinder scoring in the first ten minutes and ran the game afterwards. The Union Flags went into overdrive and rightly so with so much against the red, white and blue.Ah, yes, 'twas a good day to be a Glasgow Prod! yes

It's always good to know that our close relatives are much like us.

"We found that female wild chimpanzees copulate more frequently with those males who share meat with them on at least one occasion, compared with males who never share meat with them," said lead researcher Cristina Gomes.

Let me suggest, however, that you never share your bologna sandwich with the neighborhood chimp.

Continuing the good news thread I noted that Hearts beat Celtic in the Semi-Finals and booted them out their blowing about taking the Scottish Cup. And yet again, time after time that hot-heated Irish red headed fiery tempered manager shooting his mouth off. Becoming a regular habit. He should try keeping his mouth shut from lambasting referees when he gets beat. He also did the same on twitter this weekend. Now with a bit of good fortune ,Hearts who are taking on the Edinburgh equivilant of Celtic, Hibernian, will do the same with them!

Fabrice Muamba is a Premier League footballer who suffered a heart arrest when he was playing. He was fortunate in that there was a heart specialist in the crowd nearby and modern medical equipment in the Club (Tottenham) where his team (Bolton) was playing. He survived in spite of his heart having stopped beating by itself for over an hour.

There's a way to avoid the Internet doomsday.

http://www.dcwg.org/july-9-could-be-internet-doomsday-for-some-so-check-your-pc-or-mac/

From that site:

July 9 might be “Internet doomsday” for PC and Mac users who haven’t taken steps to make sure their systems are not infected with what’s being called DNSChanger malware. That’s right: Your Internet connection may not work that day because the safety net now in place from the FBI against the malware will be removed then, and if your computer is infected, you won’t be able to get to the Internet.

And from elsewhere:

The FBI is encouraging users to visit a website run by its security partner, http://www.dcwg.org, that will inform them whether they're infected and explain how to fix the problem. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet.

One of my computers was clean, but I haven't checked out the others yet.
