New to Opera, and not sure where to go? Ask any question here!

Are you new to Opera, and not quite sure how to get help or where to ask your question?

Use this thread to ask any question about anything related to the Opera desktop browser on Windows, Linux/FreeBSD or Mac.

Any question about the Opera browser goes, no matter how basic. The only thing we ask of you is that you post a question, not wishes, requests or opinions.

For those answering questions: Be 100% polite, all the time. No matter how basic the question might seem, it should get a proper reply.

This is a test to see how a thread like this works out. It might or might not be kept open when the results are evaluated after a while.
The Opera Ninja recommends a forum search to find answers to your questions ninja

Not sure what you mean. If you really want to block this feature, you could try to add this to your page head: <link rel="next" title="block" href="#" />
The better way is to simply link to the next page of your blog (1 -> 2, 2 -> 3, ..., n -> 1) so that users that make use of this feature can quickly browse through your pages.

There should be some extensions that do this.

Check out the Downloads Panel. I believe Panels are off by default. You can enable them in the Appearance settings.

Not sure about that.

I don't know much about JDownloader as I don't use it, but I think that Opera's download manager covers most of its features.

Don't know about this either as this is covered by my OS. Are you sure there is no extension for this?

If you use this to "sync" extensions between computers, you can +1 this thread and hope for the best.

Actually, it is possible to change. Go to Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts > Edit keyboard shortcuts and search for "space". Delete the action that looks like "Space: Fast forward, 0".

I meant "for page visitors" when i wrote "in general". But yes, this should do the trick for oneself.

Like I write an email and after clicking p+z in text area I will get:

I don't know if you can create macros in Opera, but check out Opera's Notes feature. If you saved some, you can easily insert them into text areas via the right-click menu (or simply press the menu key on your keyboard + n). Edit: On text inputs (this short one-line things, not the big ones where you write forum posts) you can also press the down key to access them.

Yes, but notes may be more veratile. I do use shortcuts to insert some BBcode formatting e.g.
b ctrl = cut & Insert, "[b]" & paste & Insert, "[/b]"

The shortcuts for text editing should be created in Preferences, Shortcuts, Keyboard Setup, Advanced, Edit Widget context. See also Customising: Keyboard on my Opera review page.

The above shortcut will apply bold formatting to the selected text.

In email, you can simply edit your signature, but you can also use shortcuts or notes to insert text if you wish.

Hi,
I've been having this problem for a couple of days now. YouTube will not load at all, neither will embedded youtube videos on other sites. When I try opening the page I get all the links and descriptions in text format but the videos don't show up and won't play. I'm really confused why this would happen, since I haven't changed anything on my browser...
I'm using version 11.61 on Win7

Thanks a lot - just one more question - what if I have few lines to add?
"BBBBBB
CCCCC
DDDDD"

After use "alt p = insert "BBBB CCCC DDDD" (copied from there where it was in few lines) it's all in one line. I tried to add
or || but that not helped or I used it wrong p.

That is why I said that notes may be more versatile. AFAIK there is no way to insert a paragraph break with the "Insert" command — it is text only.

It happened to me the same thing a while ago, to me it fix by itself just clearing the cache, be sure when you do that to erase the closed tabs too before doing it, and just in case, select all the check boxes in "Detailed options"
It's strange that append in several browsers, it's like your dns provider caches the websites for too long, if thats the case, try change them for the google public dns

Nope.

I quite miss that feature from earlier versions of Opera where the close button was just replaced with a lock. The tab remained in place but could not be lost. Is there at least a way to add an option to Windows 7 to allow me to open a private window in Opera? When I go to the Windows icon in the bottom left corner, select Opera from there, the only task options I have are New Tab and New Private Tab and the latter still opens in a normal window, not a private window.

Nobody has an answer for this?

Stack the tab with another tab or a duplicate of itself, then pin them.

I apoligize that I have to ask for help. It's about whether Opera can help ignore the behavior of a page at Yahoo Finance.

Every time I press any key including ESC or arrow .. anything. the cursor jumps to the "Get Quote" (upper left corner) field.
It's making me nuts and I can't use the Keyboard easily with this.
Is there a way to use 'user javascripts' to ignore that behavior?

I don't know much about Javascript and I don't want to learn it just to fix this one problem.
I have programmed in BASIC and ASSEMBLY and BATCH files so I understand a bit of what's going on.

To begin with : Can Opera's 'user javascript' force Yahoo's page (here) to stop moving my cursor when I hit any key?
http://finance.yahoo.com/quotes/MCP
(pressing any key should put your cursor in the "get quote" field. This makes it impossible to use the keyboard instead of mouse.

Thank you kindly!
Andre

Do you have any other software set up to automatically move your mouse cursor? I believe there is a Windows setting to jump the cursor to the active button when a message box appears. This could be something similar.

You could also try this user script I wrote a while back to block keyboard events.

Hi been with opera for many a moon and many a devices. I'm running Opera 11.61 on windows xp sp2. Now on to my problem. I can't find the where the opera profile is so that I can delete and restore default settings to my browser. I've had a look at the file path in help>about opera. Also did a search throughout both my hard drives including hidden files just in case it some how went and automatically hid itself. Would you be able to help me with this if possible? Thanks smile

On Windows, there are two profile directories. %AppData%\Opera\Opera stores your settings, and %LocalAppData%\Opera\Opera stores your cache, mail and other large files.

Ok and where do i find the file path? c:\documentsandsettings\username\appdata? That folder is empty. Now where would I find LocalAppData\Opera? In c:\programmefiles\opera????

Cheers and thanks for trying to help me resolve this issue

Just paste the paths into Window Explorer and press Enter. "%AppData%" and "%LocalAppData%" are variables which it will expand out to an actual location.

Just in case your profile folders are in a non-default location, you can find them from the about page under Paths. "Opera Directory" is where your settings are stored, and "Cache", "Help documents" and "Mail directory" should all be inside another folder, which is where larger files are stored.

Thank you spadija it came up with the folder when I pasted %AppData% and now I'm having trouble finding the file I need to delete to restore default settings to my browser. %LocalAppData% just came up with wrong parameters once pasted into explorer window.

I'm not sure where %LocalAppData% is on Windows XP, but the folder you need to delete is the folder where "Cache", "Help documents" and "Mail directory" are stored. Check the about page and look under Paths to see where this is.

Hello,

I've done some reading through forums but can't find an answer. Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

I have a few pages I would like to have reloaded or refreshed every few minutes. I used the feature where you right-click on the desired web page, then on the drop down click, "Reload every". This opens another drop-down that allows you to select one of the preset times provided; create a custom time; or allow the "Page Default".

I chose, "Custom . . .", and set a reload time of every 15 minutes. When I exited, the radio ball or blue ball (whatever it's called) was positioned next to the "Custom . . . " option. Later however, I noticed that the page had stopped reloading, and upon further checking I found that the option had reverted to "Page Default".

Why would this occur after I had set a custom time for reloading? Is it caused by the page provider? Can they cause my browser setting to revert? Or is it more likely something I've done wrong? If so, is there a simple workaround?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm new to Opera and still trying to figure it all out. I'm also odd, because I don't particular like forums as a means of getting help, I'm used to being able to contact an actual customer support to get help - but here it is. After 'Saving' User Id's and Passwords to Opera - when I revisit the sites - (such as my email account), I still have to entered the User Id and Password. It does not automatically fill it in - as it does in IE and Firefox. Why doesn't it automatically fill in the User ID and Password?

Opera's password manager, aka Wand, works differently from IE or FF.

All you need is one click on the key icon in address bar or pressing Ctrl+Enter (or the space key). Wand will fill the respective fields with your username & password, and submit them at once. If you have more than one account, Wand will present you a list of registered accounts for you to select.

Healthy forum!
Just make a reservation, I do not speak English, and don `t know where to write on this take this opportunity to write here.
In general, there are some inconveniences in the Opera browser, such as:
Copying of text, that is, Tools -> Preferences, tab Advanced, then choose Content -> Java Script Options, then at the bottom User JavaScript folder, below the window, for example, it is already present in the inserted text, for example, and I want to replace it, select the text, press your right mouse button and I press insert, it certainly is inserted, but then the problem is not replaced by a dedicated and inserted side by side, although I could be replaced.
Also, if I press the right mouse button, clicked the mouse Edit Site Preferences, turn on the tab Display or Sripting, in the same way trying to replace the selected text, when you insert is the same as described above.
Another problem, for example, I uploaded a picture, press your right mouse button, and click Image Properties, then in the Addres can not copy the link, although it worked before, please correct.

If that sorry for the bad English, translated via Google.
Original text in Russian is attached below.

Google.
Оригинал текста на русском прилагаю ниже.

Hello, I started using Opera about a week ago and I really like it. It worked wonderfully, but then I encountered a problem after I restarted my computer yesterday. When I started Opera up, it for some reason has become unable to open any web pages. Instead I get a screen saying

'Connection closed by remote server
Check that the address is spelled correctly, or try searching for the site.'

It does the exact same thing for any site that I try to go to. I tried uninstalling Opera and reinstalling it, but the problem persists.
Any ideas on what might have changed that could cause this? I am using Win7 OS and have Microsoft security essentials and McAfee Internet Security Suite on my laptop.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I really like this program and hope to be able to continue to use it. Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much for the reply, and that was exactly what it was.... McAfee had blocked Opera for some reason. Any idea on how I can prevent it from doing that again in the future?

I don't use McAfee so have no idea of it's workings. Maybe they have a forum where you could ask the same question.

In this forum I often see that somebody found a bug and put down here he reported it as DSK-xxx.
For example I found a similiar bug. Where can I find that bugreport's text to ensure it is my case or not?

Not possible because the bug tracker is closed for allowed people only (the developers, Opera employees, etc). In this state of things I suggest that even if you see a bug which was already reported, report it again with your own words to be sure.
After all it'll be analyzed and if it's a bug that has been submitted before they'll be grouped as duplicate entries.
