New to Opera, and not sure where to go? Ask any question here!

Are you new to Opera, and not quite sure how to get help or where to ask your question?

Use this thread to ask any question about anything related to the Opera desktop browser on Windows, Linux/FreeBSD or Mac.

Any question about the Opera browser goes, no matter how basic. The only thing we ask of you is that you post a question, not wishes, requests or opinions.

For those answering questions: Be 100% polite, all the time. No matter how basic the question might seem, it should get a proper reply.

This is a test to see how a thread like this works out. It might or might not be kept open when the results are evaluated after a while.
The Opera Ninja recommends a forum search to find answers to your questions ninja

opera:config#UserPrefs|Scale

Set to 130 and click to Save button.

You can also zoom in/out using +/- which will step by 10%. * will bring it back to 100%

If you call event.preventDefault() in the tab key's keypress event, it should work fine to capture it.

(In most other browsers you can call preventDefault() in the keydown event, we intend to fix Opera so that this will work too, but for now you need to listen to keypress in Opera. If you make sure the script handles both keydown and keypress it should be future-compatible even when we fix the bug and switch to letting you prevent keydown.)

cant confirm your problems for gmail , grooveshark, and youtube all our working with my opera 11 alpha installation, Windows 7 64-bit. do you have a transparent skin installed? Cause there are still problems with transparency in opera and the displaying of text and videos(which may look messy)

Also please put your OS when posting (Optional for whether its 32 or 64-bit)

Hi, everyone! I just installed Opera a couple of days ago and was wondering how to stop it from scrolling all the way down to the bottom of a page. I have Windows 7 and whenever I try to edit a large document in google docs, I have to scroll a lot to get to a specific part. So as I'm scrolling, Opera seems to take over and keeps scrolling down to the end of the document, which is not the place I want to edit. I've noticed it only happens with Google docs. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings all!

In Opera 10 I was viewing the source code for a web page and searching for a particular string. The string it finds is highlighted in a gray color I find hard to see on the page.

I looked for an option to change the color but I didn't see one. Is there such an option?

Thanks!

You can change the color in webpage but not in source code.

I thought I posted this before... but I can't find it. So please forgive me... this is a test to see if I really can post!

***edit***

Oh good, looks like I can. Here's the deal:

A small wet straw broke the camel's back on Firefox: they don't have an easily accessible support forum. But there are two add-ons I really liked in Firefox, and want to see if Opera has them. I expect y'all do.

1. Spell check in both English and German.
2. A clock function so I can see what time it is in Germany.

I'm also curious about updates. I'm not normal: I HATE updates. Is Opera one of those things that is going to insist I update every two weeks? I know it's supposedly "safer and faster," but I think I've had ONE update that did anything other than slow my machine down and give me features that I didn't like. And that one offered a feature I did like, while slowing my machine down. down

I'm tempted to join y'all regardless... y'all win in the smiley department. sherlock

Problems upgrading to 10.63 after restore :

Hi

I used to have Opera 10.62 on my PC, that was until a couple of weeks ago when I had major issues on my computer and had to restore/re-install virtually everything. I have re-installed Opera to version 10.20, which works OK. However on trying to upgrade to 10.63 the update process keeps failing. I originally got messages relating to Opera.Installer.Msi (which I could not find on my PC), however the last few days my attempts to upgrade to 10.63 just abort without a message.

All my other apps have re-installed OK apart from Opera (which I love). Has anyone come across a similar scenario?

Many thanks and Hello!

Have a look at the many date/time widgets. There might be one with an international time option. Try World Clock

Updates are not usually every two weeks — maybe once a month on average. If you must, you can disable updates in Preferences, Security, but subscribe to a feed at the Desktop Team Blog so that you know about upcoming updates and security fixes.

I also have a zoom question [but, sorry, don't see where to start a new quesiton]...

There was a zoom selection box in the lower right corner of the window...now it is gone...what happened? how do I get it back?
Thank you

also the page is very jumpy..seems to be in response to mouse...won't stay put to where I scrolled. If this is some problem created by 'mouse moves' how do I disable that?

Hi - I've had Opera for a while, but decided to give it a real go.

Anyway I have just configured it nicely, but I'm having trouble with the 'home page' button. I want it to bring me to Speed Dial, but when I click on it, I get an Opera page that says "Invalid URL." It also says "The URL http://Speed Dial contains characters that are not valid in the location they are found."

I did search to see if there is already a thread about this but I couldn't find one.

Any solutions?

It indicates that a pop-up was blocked. You can view the popup by opening up the bin. I think it'll have the word "Pop-up" or something like that before it.

Hi - I searched in forums and in knowledge base, but couldn't find what I'm looking for. Basically, is there a way of customising context menus in Opera? I ask this because I like to right-click on hyperlinks and open them in new background tabs. I might open several links in the background from one page, but still want to continue reading that page. In Chrome, which was the browser I was using prior to Opera, it's the first option you get when you right-click on a link, so it takes an almost imperceptible movement on the mousepad, a tap, and the new pages are waiting for you for when you're done with the current page. But the corresponding option in Opera is the third one down... It really interrupts my flow having to think about what I'm doing! I know an alternative way is to hold ctrl+shift and left-click, but if the option is there to change the order of the context menu, then I'd like to know how.

If you don't know how to edit menu setup see this. Under [Link Popup Menu] section, move the following to top.

Where do I offer UX feedback?

I'm frustrated that twice this year I've tried to migrate (back) to Opera, and it seems to demand that I spend an enormous amount of time debugging & re-learning.

Back when Opera 4 was so much faster than IE & Netscape, it was worth spending the time to figure out all the quirks.
Now after a couple hours getting nowhere I end up uninstalling.

The time I waste sorting details are better spent waiting on a memory hog browser that 'just works'.
I'm genuinely happy for you that you've now developed 'features' that appeal to the masses, but to me it's all clutter.

It's disappointing that even after so many years you're still buggy, with broken basic functions like bookmarks:

You can try downloading the misleadingly named Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin (it's just a standard plugin, and not specific to Firefox).

If there are specific bugs, you can create threads in the browser forum. When it comes to subjective things like whether something looks good or not, that's a slightly more difficult question.

Hello again!

I've been using Opera for a week or so, and so far it's MUCH faster than Firefox. But I have a couple of questions.

1: Sometimes when I click on a link, it doesn't "take." It's like I have to click on the link two or three times before the program realizes I clicked on the link. This isn't consistent. Sometimes I'll be flying along, no problem, and then suddenly run into a problem. Other times, every click is more than Opera was expecting.

Typing the URL into the little URL box also has this problem. Again, it's not consistent, but it's worse than clicking links. (More than once or twice, I've had to resort to googling the URL I want.)

2. Just today, clicking on a link results in bringing up a menu. Search, Search with, Copy, Copy to note (and it goes on from there.) I promise I'm not touching the keyboard or left-clicking. That's not as annoying as clicks that don't take, but it is odd. What's up?

(Thanks in advance!! This is the best "support" thread I've ever encountered.)pirate

Does this start happening after running Opera for many hours? Or can it happen just after starting Opera?

Do you have a lot of open tabs?

When the link doesn't "take", is the rest of the user interface responding, or is it that the whole browser is frozen?

Typing the URL into the little URL box also has this problem. Again, it's not consistent, but it's worse than clicking links. (More than once or twice, I've had to resort to googling the URL I want.)

So the whole user interface freezes every now and then?

Hello,

I've been looking around to see if this is possible, but so far I haven't see any precedence. Is it possible to set a default zoom level for specific web page(s)? Lately I've found that I need to keep one page I go to at 120% zoom level, but I don't have to change it for any other pages/tabs. I'd really like to skip having to alter the zoom level every time I go to the page. I know the tab keeps it's zoom level, but as soon as I'm finished with a webpage I close the tab it's in automatically, so I'd love to be able to set up a rule or something to always adjust the zoom on going to www.xxxyyyzzz.com.
