Extensions wishlist
Tell us in this thread which extensions you want to see. This might be useful for developers to get inspiration and you might get your dream extension come true.A list with scripts that should be ported to extensions:
- port Ultimate Highlight script (highlights search queries)
- port GoogleFX, or at least part of its functionality (preview search results, show numbers before search results, ...)
- autocomplete for forms/edits (similar to FireFox/Chrome), there's a script now that does something similar
- port MultiPopUp script (shows extended skinnable tooltips)
- port "snaplinks" script to an extension (open multiple links by dragging a border around them)
- port VirtualKeyboard script (shows a virtual keyboard for entering text, very useful for passwords as keyloggers won't work)
- port "Text Area Backup" script (saves any text entered in a textarea so if Opera crashes or you close the page by mistake you can always retrieve the text you've entered)
- port the BugMeNot script
Other ideas
- add a "sticky notes" extension to save notes for a page, subdomain or domain
- site address hider/modifier (rename the title of the site according to some rules)
- port the User JS Manager from Unite to an extension, i believe it's more useful as an extension than as a Unite App
- make an extension to edit/import/export the blocked content list
- or better yet, port the "AdBlock" plugin from FireFox
- make an extension to minimize to tray instead of the taskbar, also add the ability to minimize to tray instead of closing
- make an extension similar to "Quick Translator" which after selecting a text shows a small button, if you press it you can translate the selected text in a floating div (without having to go to another page or translate the entire page)
- extension similar to "Read It Later" so that i can save links to custom lists for later reviewing
Probably it would be nice to have extensions for the Opera Mail (M2) too. I don't personally use it, but I bet a lot of users would like many of the Thunderbird's addons ported to M2

P.S. i've copy&pasted from my other thread so the info regarding extensions wishlist would be in the right place.

-Ask the extension authors themselves, If they're willing to port their own product, it'd be easiest for them than anyone else, and possibly could have be done much faster.
-Consider the extensions license, not all extensions is licensed with GPL or similar license, Opera dev. team can't just port some copyrighted extensions, can they?
I've just asked AutoPager author, and they said they gonna try it! yay

+ 1

even if I'd prefer to have it as an integrated feature!
Btw, I hope that will be created only useful extensions!

Doh! I havent! tnx for heads up
Gmail and Google Voice checkers - self explanatory.
IE Tab - Allows me to set certain pages to render with IE. Let's face it, some crappy apps still only work in IE. Actually some really nice (and extremely expensive stuff) I use at the office only likes IE. Being able to render these pages with IE without leaving Chrome is awesome.
Proxy Switchy - An extension that automatically turns my work proxy off and on depending on what site I'm on. Reddit: Off. Microsoft Technet: On.

Adblock - Self explanatory.
Some kind of system to check for updates to installed extensions would be excellent.
For the Opera devs who are lurking about on Reddit now, we have a wishlist thread going here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/comments/dudew/getting_right_to_it_opera_extensions_wed_like_to/
Oh and I know that there is going to be lastpass (according to their forums) and plenty of adblocks addons so FlashGot is the most important for me besides these two.
edit 2: where can I download WOT addon?

I don't see it yet. Looks like they plan on it being there soon though:
http://www.mywot.com/en/blog/281-wot-is-among-the-first-for-new-opera-extensions
Then:
– Gopher support. With Opera being the leanest advanced browser under many circunstances, it supporting a cool protocol for easy communication in times of emergency, as well as access to interesting alternets, would be of interest.
– Integration with System Notifications -- that means the ability to send app notifications (file downloaded, etc) to the system's notification daemon, be it whateverballoons in Windows, dbus/libnotify in Linux, whatevergrowls in Mac, etc... Optionally, allow us to specify a command to run on events the same way we are allowed to specify audio files.
– As has been explained in previous posts, virtual keyboard. Not only for safety but also easy access.
– Capture web page as image. I have discussed it in several threads and some people just don't seem (capable of) get the usefulness that it would serve having it native.
– Download checksumer. Maybe better if this is integrated into the download dialog though, but if it is not to be done, then an official extension would rock.
– Multiple proxy selector. With not only the ability to set up different proxies and enable/disable the proxy functionality, but also the ability to import proxy configurations from either proxylisters or the system's default global settings. Of course supporting several proxy protocols such as FTP, SSL and, you know, SOCKS!!!!
– Better control of scripts via both individual script blocking/loading and the ability to define default behaviour for external scripts, as NoScript does.
– Tab Notifier. Something that say you can leave a tab waiting for the MegaUpload counter to go down to zero and the tab will notify you when it is ready to go. Could work with several other issues like pages loading content that take a long time, pages providing live interaction (ie.: chat et al), etc.

Shouldn't be too hard to make.

New Opera 10 UI removed native Windows Caption.
This makes much heavier navigating, when you have dozen of similar tabs, for example different threads on same forum.
Extension is to be a widget, that is placed on Status Bar ( there is muuuch unclaimed space) [1]
and show TITLE of current focused TAB. [2]
Or - when mouse is over Tab Bar or Windows sidebar panel, it should temporary show TITLE of tab, that is hovered with mouse, to help user switch selectively. [3]
It seems that current GUI/API states are following:
[2] -> ft=opera.extensions.backgroundProcess.tabs.getFocused(); if(ft) value = ft.title else value = "";
[1] -> No go ? Only add garbage to already overpopulated Address Bar ?
[3] -> no go again ?
Perhaps every UserJS might be auto-converted by Opera into extensions, providing for common UI entry point to set preferences/upgrade/uninstall in UserJS.
- Google Voice checker (already mentioned)
- Text area backup (already mentioned)
- While Adblock Plus only works in mozilla-based browsers, I'd like to see some adblocking list we could use. This way we could just download a list for the content blocker instead of having to add content as we come across it. Doesn't really need to be a full extension, as I see it, since content blocking is already part of Opera.
- Xmarks sync
- LastPass (already mentioned)
- Port UJS Manager from Opera Unite to an extension (already mentioned)
tab collapser to move tabs into folders
be able to make icons less than 40% in appearance settings
- BBCodeXtra
- ColorZilla
- Download Statusbar
- Flagfox
- Google Shortcuts
- gTranslate
- LastPass
- MeasureIt
- Rehost Image
- Resizeable Textarea
- Screengrab
- SearchPreview
- TabLang
- Table2Clipboard
- Toolbar Buttons
- Xmarks
this is what they say about it
I looked at those this morning.
The API look significantly better than Chrome's, but there's still some hard to work-around obstacle, especially in the inter-process messaging API, which is strictly asynchronous: NoScript's content-side component would need to exchange information synchronously with the background process at least once per page, in order to reliably apply its security policies.
I'll keep an eye on changes.
so please Opera, make it easier somehow : )

noscript (a Maone version >>> sounds like he's interested and looking) there's nothing matching the Firefox version, so that's the one we need on Opera.
http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5227
adblock+ (people are already asking on their forums but I can already imagine the answer... the developer - Palant - isn't ready to work on a second project, even if the API allows it). Again, there's unfortunately nothing matching the Firefox version.

of course, the real solution would be that the devs of those plugins, as well of their browsers, would adapt the W3C Extension model...

I'd also like to see extensions actually being designed for the pop-up, and not appear centered and box-like. It's just cheap looking right now mostly.
A download manager, in my books, allows you to not only pause/resume, but import/recover incomplete downloads, do segmented (multi-part) downloads, add multiple mirrors etc. FlashGot is not an option for me because regular download managers don't work where I do my downloads from (at uni). For some reason, DownThemAll! (a firefox addon) works just fine for me where regular dl managers (like FlashGet, GetRight, JDownloader etc) fail. Besides, having an integrated dl manager makes it easy to use Opera in a portable fashion so I can use it on any computer and download without any hassles.
Would be grateful if someone could implement a download manager extension. I'm even willing to donate for this cause. Infact, I pledge $50 for this feature!
But if "plugin on demand" was perfected then the need for a Flash blocker might not exist anymore.

AutoPager is also a must, though i know two community attempts based on UserJS.
+1 I love the userJS, but the status indicator element cause slow down the smooth scrolling due to Opera's old, fixed positioned element bug. So the dedicated toolbar button as status indicator should be work fine.

My wishes:
1. Website Monitor: For websites which is lack of RSS.
2. Extension for switch the language in the Opera built-in spell checker based on the language of the page.

port the User JS Manager

Impossible, because extensions does not access to the browser options.
Capture web page as image
Impossible with current api.
User Agent switcher
Impossible with current api.

I made the port and want to publish it in the extension gallery but I don't know anything about the required license because Ayush made the original userjs (which is ported from a firefox addon)

make an extension to minimize to tray instead of the taskbar, also add the ability to minimize to tray instead of closing
opera:config#Show Exit Dialog = 2
ScrapBook extension in Firefox
Impossible with current api.

While Adblock Plus only works in mozilla-based browsers, I'd like to see some adblocking list we could use.
NoAds already supported adblocking lists (only EHH). Using the completely lists, seems not very realistic.
