Opera 8.51 Buttons

Since some things have changed for Opera 8.x (skins and hidden menus), I think we need a new thread for Opera 8.51 Buttons. If you're looking for buttons for Opera 7.x, this is the old thread

This is the Opera Custom Button Maker. There are loads of custom buttons on the Wiki Site, and this is my button page which has a few more, a customized standard skin with extra icons, and explains a bit about making buttons.

Opera 8.0 buttons with hidden popup menus have two functions, just like the earlier buttons, but without the dropdown menu taking up any space on the toolbar. Just click and hold to get the menu or alternative action.

Below are some of my favourites so far:

button Click for your home page, click and hold for the browser menu.

button Updated: Click for the main menu, click and hold to manage bookmarks. (Now with Dropdown Icon)

button Print + Print Options

button Open document + closed window list

button Session list + Open Window list

button Paste clipboard contents into Irfan View + Utilities menu. This requires a [Browser Utilities menu] section in your customized menu, where you can create items for any other programs or utilities.

button Toggle zoom 100%, 120%, 150% + Show zoom menu

button Skin menu + Colour scheme menu

button Scroll down + Back to top

button Manage Bookmarks + Internal Bookmark list

button Browse your Drives

If you have any great ideas for new buttons, post them in this thread using the {Opbut=Action, parameter 1,parameter 2,"Tooltip", "Icon"}Button{/opbut} code.¹

If you need help making buttons, post your requests here. Please don't email me — though I enjoy helping people, I prefer to do it only when it suits me.

¹ Replace {curly brackets} with [square ones]. Parameters are optional, not all actions need them. Titles and icons are also optional. See the [Images] section of skin.ini for your skin to see the right name to use for the icon you wish to use.

Update: See my Opera Buttons Page with A Tutorial on Adding Icons to Skins.

Hi,

I'd like to know if some one could make a button so that it can do the same thing as the execute command of windows (execute is english:confused: ) ie a button that directly browse so that we can browse in the computer without typing anything just clicking on the button, we choose the program and that's it...
I hope you understood me lol thx
My wish-list:
  1. Content Blocker: Managed Sites: Display Number of Hits Seems to be a cool and nice feature. Do not hesitate to bump the thread pirate .
  2. Search engine sorting (move search engines up/down): An old basic need, HAS to be fixed bomb
  3. New Opera Preferences layout idea w\ Mockup: the current one is in dire need of change monkey

Browse, huh? Try opera:drives, at least if you're in Windows. Not a button, but you can still drag it to a toolbar, or a bookmark, or set it as your homepage.

I just discovered the "kill" button, but I would like to have it without an icon. When I edit the text of the button definition to remove the "Mark as spam" from the definition, it gives me the Bookmarks icon. What do I have to do to get no icon?

Perhaps you have the " " in the wrong place. It should be the fifth parameter in the button or menu item.

Don't you mean Maxthon?

I have modified these fabulous new buttons from the Opera Wiki Power Buttons page to add dual functionality. Click to split the page; click and hold to remove the split.

button Split the current page vertically.

button The same button, but splitting the page horizontally. Most skins won't have the necessary "Tile Horizontally" icon, try my Opera Glasses large icons skin or modify your existing skin. Otherwise, use the button below, which just uses the cascade icon instead of the tile icon.

button The same split horizontally button, with the cascade icon.

Wherever possible it is best to define an icon for your buttons because many users will use "images only" so buttons without icons will spoil the appearance and take up extra space if the title is longer than two letters. It is not always easy to find a suitable icon. Unzip the skin and browse it with Irfan View's thumbnail browser.Custom icons can be added, but they will only be available in some skins. It seems to be limited to the forum pages. If you refresh the page and try again it will work fine. It works first time on other pages.

I noticed that when one replies to a forum thread, one often has to refresh the page to update with one's new post. It may be related to that.

The button from the Power Buttons Page behaves exactly the same here as my twin function buttons. It draws the frames but they remain blank. If you refresh and try again there is no problem.

I've seen this a couple of times too. When I made the button, I first tested it on these forums and it worked fine. Problems did only occur with some pages with long urls (with several parameters). I'll look into this.

All those split buttons worked for me.

They did however not work the first time I tried them. First try gave me a split blank page, click and hold reloaded the original page, after that the buttons have worked great.

Hi all,

I need some help...

I wanted to create a "html-code" bar, namely to put some button on one bar to insert html-tags. But, when trying to execute this, it happens nothing:

Button1, "H1"=Cut & Insert, "[H1]" & Paste & Insert, "[/H1]""

But, when using this command from the mouse pop-up menu, everything works fine.

Any idea?

To respond to that earlier post ... text editing stuff just doesn't work as a button. Some people have asked for the traditional "Cut, Copy, Paste" buttons you see in most text editors - if I recall Cut and Copy may have worked, but Paste did not. It may work as a menu item though. Let's see ... yeah, it should.

I have tried to add button(below) using windows run and pasting code directly to Oepra URL box but these install methods does not work.

This Button does not work well in my comfortably skin after I drag/drop it. The calculator allthough works OK

opera:/button/Execute%20program,%22C:/WINDOWS/CALC.EXE%22,,%22Calculator%22,%22Calc%22

It displays a large text "Calculator" between the buttons. This text also appears in "My buttons" in Appearence > Buttons. I made several buttons for Go and Delete and Cache (I modified the buttons so they are "boxed" in the Comfortably.... zip) and they all work. I made a special nice Calc button and would like to put that instead of the text.

I already added the following line in the skin.ini of the zip and put the calc button in the button folder of the zip. What am I doing wrong ?? I feel I'm nearly there.
Calculator = buttons/calc.png

Actual modifications

To which the calc button should be added (I've placed the button already in the zip under buttons)

Just the wrong order. The fourth parameter is the button title, the fifth one is the icon.

Thank you very much. Now it works

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/069a2c39d4.jpg

So I made another button (CitiNum) and also put it in the buttons folder of the theme zip, and added a line to the skin.ini of the theme

I adapted the code accordingly to where the CitiNum.exe is located. Where do I put this code that I adapted for the new exe ??

opera:/button/Execute%20program,%22C:/PROGRAM_FILES/CITY_INTERNET_NUMBER/CITIINUM.EXE%22,,%22CitiNum%22,%22CitiNum%22

EDIT: I found out myself in the meantime which is good so I can learn

Button12, is the line I added to standard_toolbar(1). ini

Button8, "Go"="Go, , , "Go", "Open Link""
Button9, "Clear"="Clear, , , "Clear", "Delete""
Button10, "Go to page"=Go to page, "opera:cache", , "Cache", "Mark as spam" + Show preferences, 20
Button11, "Calculator"="Execute program, "Calc", , "Calculator", "Calculator""
Button12, "CitiNum"="Execute program, "C:\Program Files\Citi Internet Number\CitiINum.exe", , "CitiNum", "CitiNum""
Button13, "Page down"=Page down, , , "Scroll", "View flat" + Go to start
Button14, "Notepad"="Execute program, "notepad", , "Notepad", "Window Mail Compose Icon""
Button15, "Drives"="New page, , , "Drives", "Parent folder" & Go to page, "opera:drives", , , "Parent folder""

My question is why did I have to fill in the full path to the CitiINum.exe to make it work ?? (first I had the confusion with the double i in the middle while the png file was with one i) Tools like notepad and calculator do not need the full path to be put in that toolbar.ini file

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/34110a1bd8.jpg

After I reduced the width of some icons I'm gonna replace this idiotic stick wand icon with something with a key in it.

Helloo!
After reading through the forum and finding many usefull things, I love Opera even more the before.
I've tried to make a button of my own to enable/disable: menu bar, main bar and personal bar, but I can't get it to work properly. I would like it to work from the adress bar or the page bar.
If anyone can please help me I would be thankful !

this is how it looks in "standard_toolbar (1).ini":

"Mini"=Enable menu bar, , , "Mini" | Disable menu bar & View main bar, , & view personal bar, ,

I've tried to combine these 3 buttons:

"Menu"=Enable menu bar, , , "Menu" | Disable menu bar
"LB"=Set alignment, "personalbar", , "LB" | Set alignment, "personalbar", 6
"MB"=Set alignment, "browser toolbar", , "MB" | Set alignment, "browser toolbar", 6

Thank you Pesala: Mini is my atempt to combine the 3 buttons (LB, MB and Menu) that I allready have from http://nontroppo.org/wiki/Opera;
I was asking for help with it because it's not working;
I mean it work only once but only if it's placed on the main toolbar: it turns of the menu bar, personal bar and Main toolbar but It doesn't bring them back (I have created a simple one that switches on/off only menu bar and personal bar and tested it, that's how i now it does'n bring them back)
If it is placed on the adress bar it switches them off but then in switches on only the Menu

I'm having some trouble with a opera button. I was told to post my question here for a quick answer.

Spurl Button Icon Problem

I recently discovered a great way of sharing bookmarks between my work and home PC.

www.spurl.net

I seems to support Opera quite well. However I have had the following problem, and wondered if anyone else can recreate it.

When I installed Spurl, and dragged the button to my personal bar. It had a nice blue 'S' icon.
After I closed and relaunched opera, it turned into just a standard bookmark icon. No blue 'S'. But still functioned correctly.

I am using Opera Version 8.51 Build 7712 Platform Win32 System Windows 2000

I have also noticed that it wont work with framed windows, but otherwise it's a great way of easily sharing bookmarks at different locations.
Something I wish Opera did with it's own bookmarks, mail and notes.

Anyone know how to get the nice blue 'S' icon back?
