Opera 8.51 Buttons

Since some things have changed for Opera 8.x (skins and hidden menus), I think we need a new thread for Opera 8.51 Buttons. If you're looking for buttons for Opera 7.x, this is the old thread

This is the Opera Custom Button Maker. There are loads of custom buttons on the Wiki Site, and this is my button page which has a few more, a customized standard skin with extra icons, and explains a bit about making buttons.

Opera 8.0 buttons with hidden popup menus have two functions, just like the earlier buttons, but without the dropdown menu taking up any space on the toolbar. Just click and hold to get the menu or alternative action.

Below are some of my favourites so far:

button Click for your home page, click and hold for the browser menu.

button Updated: Click for the main menu, click and hold to manage bookmarks. (Now with Dropdown Icon)

button Print + Print Options

button Open document + closed window list

button Session list + Open Window list

button Paste clipboard contents into Irfan View + Utilities menu. This requires a [Browser Utilities menu] section in your customized menu, where you can create items for any other programs or utilities.

button Toggle zoom 100%, 120%, 150% + Show zoom menu

button Skin menu + Colour scheme menu

button Scroll down + Back to top

button Manage Bookmarks + Internal Bookmark list

button Browse your Drives

If you have any great ideas for new buttons, post them in this thread using the {Opbut=Action, parameter 1,parameter 2,"Tooltip", "Icon"}Button{/opbut} code.¹

If you need help making buttons, post your requests here. Please don't email me — though I enjoy helping people, I prefer to do it only when it suits me.

¹ Replace {curly brackets} with [square ones]. Parameters are optional, not all actions need them. Titles and icons are also optional. See the [Images] section of skin.ini for your skin to see the right name to use for the icon you wish to use.

Update: See my Opera Buttons Page with A Tutorial on Adding Icons to Skins.

A Lesson in Button Editing

Edit: Thanks to filbo for an easier way to edit buttons.

Quote any post with a button in this forum and edit the code to create your own modified button.

button (Opbut=Manage bookmarks,, , "Bookmark Manager", "Panel Bookmarks" + Show hidden popup menu,"Internal Bookmark Folder")Bookmark Manager(/opbut)¹

1. "Manage bookmarks" is the button action
2. A parameter used by some actions
3. A second parameter used by some actions
4. "Bookmark Manager" is the button title
5. "Panel Bookmarks" is the button's icon
+ Separates the second action off the button
6. "Show hidden popup menu" is the second action
7. "Internal Bookmark Folder" (in quotes) is the menu to show

The title and icon must be on the first action, any others will be ignored.

¹ Round brackets have been used instead of square ones to show the code.

button This one has a volume control as the hidden action. Click and hold to bring up the Windows volume control.

I tried to get the icon to change when sound and plugins are disabled, but cannot get it to work, though the button’s selected state does change to give at least some indication. Any help would be appreciated.

My third button attempt. I hope nobody has thought of this before:

Press - Medium screen toggle
Press and hold - Images and style menu

Edit: No icon. Feel free to add one if you so desire.
Edit 2: Improved as Pesala suggested. It worked fine for me (except for the icon). How's it now?

There is no icon and it doesn't work because you included the extra quotes that used to be optional in Opera 7.x

"Enable mediumscreen mode | Disable mediumscreen mode + Show hidden popup menu, "Images And Style Menu""

Just removing the quotes fixes the button and the icon.

I could do it, but I don't know the path to profile folder.

This one should work, if you use a single user installaton:

Is "owner" your Windows user name?

As I said, the button above does only work on single-user installations.
This one should work for all multi-user installations, which are installed to the folder "Opera":

This one works for "Opera8" folder:

I used %appdata% as replacement for C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\, so this button should work for everyone.

Hi there Buttonmeisters,

I've been looking for a way to execute the "Delete private data" actions from a button without the confirmation dialogue (IOW a Panic button) but I cannot seem to find a way to do so.

What I have concocted after much searching and head scratching is a sort of poor cousin to the Panic button that closes all pages & deletes the cache & visited & typed histories.

I'm sure others have already come up with the same or similar stuff as this but as stated I have been unable to find any.

button

This uses the standard skin "Blocked = buttons/blocked.png" icon but you could change it to whatever you want.

I have been unable to determine a method to also "Remove all finished transfers" with this button.

I would be grateful If anyone could show me how to...

a: Execute the "Delete private data" actions from a button without the confirmation dialogue.

or

b: Show a way to add "Remove all finished transfers" to the above button.

p.s. This being the first time I have attempted to translate a button to vB code for forum uploading and multiple action buttons are still a bit weird to me I am not sure if I have stuffed it up or not so I will include the original (working) button I wrote below just in case.

Button1, "Panic"=Clear disk cache , , , "Panic", "Blocked" & Clear visited history & Clear typed in history & Close all

next button

This is a "next" button for M2. It does exactly the stuff usually reserved for space bar in M2.

The popup menu reveals several relevant options as well, but I personally prefer to use a customized menu in connexion with this button.

[Next Item Menu]
Item, "Next" = Next item, 1
Item, 67359 = Select next unread
Item, 67354 = Mark and select next unread
Item, 26536 = Mark as read

Pesala, three questions please ?? ... TIA.

1. Your arsenal of buttons is terrific, but toolbar space disappears so quickly! They almost need to be aligned down a droplist under a BUTTON for "favorite buttons" love

2. Clicking above buttons saves them to "my buttons" page, but sometimes with incorrect title. For example, button PB saves as the keyboard shortcut command for "Set Alignment."

3. Is there a toolbar button (or a shortcut command) to toggle ON/OFF the tooltips chkbox (flyover hints), which appears on the Browsing page in preferences?

1. Use a button to perform one function, and a hidden popup menu to list a whole lot more, like my "Browser Utilities Menu" which you add to your customized menu. See my Tips Page

2. To edit any button in the Opera forums see the posts above.

If you drag the PB button to your main tooblar or document toolbar first, and from there to your My Buttons Palette, the name is correct. No idea what it goes wrong when adding directly. Maybe its a bug.

3. I don't think so. There are some Preferences Buttons on the Wiki page, but they look like they were written for Opera 7x.

Check Preferences (CTRL+F12) > Advanced > Toolbars to see which toolbar setup is selected. Then open your profile\toolbar folder and open the corresponding file. You should not edit such a file while it's being used by Opera, so close Opera first or switch to another toolbar setup.

Buttons added to your main toolbar will be in the [Browser toolbar.content] section.
Buttons added to your document toolbar will be in the [Document toolbar.content] section.
Buttons added to your My Buttons palette will be in the [Customize toolbar Custom.content] section.

Check out Michael’s free OpEdit utility. You may find it a convenient way to edit ini files. It also has a backup function.

To update a menu or toolbar edited while Opera is running, try: Preferences, Advanced, Toolbars, Rename. Then just click OK without actually renaming the toolbar or menu. This seems to work, though the ini files say that they should not be edited while Opera is running. The reason being, I suppose, is that any changes you make will be lost if you close Opera without doing as I suggest, which updates the copy held in memory.

No. When Opera is hidden it loses focus, so there is no command that could bring it back into focus. Maybe some third-party program like Tray-it could offer that option.

Hey i need some help for creating a button for foobar
Heres the button:

Button24, "|"="Execute program, "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Programs and setups\Foobar2000\foobar2000.exe", "/command:Playback/Play or pause", , "Smiley Happy""

There are several simple commands you can add for foobar to do, for instance, "/play". However, you can reach a whole lot more by adding "/command:" and then the appropriate syntax.
The problem i have is that Opera completely ignores the '/command:' part, and so only registers 'playback/play or pause'. This causes it to play the two imaginary files "or" and "pause". Either that or the spaces in 'play or pause' are causing problems.
Heres what the command would normally look like (if using that run function):
C:\Program Files\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe "/command:Playback/Play or pause"
Thanks

I really like the 'Session' buttons listed here. But the fact that sessions open in a new browser window makes sessions more than useless. The button posted in this thread is:

Button[X], "Sessions"="Show popup menu, "Internal Bookmark Folder", , "Sessions", "Panel
Bookmarks" + Show popup menu, "Browser Session Menu", , , "Panel Bookmarks""

Is there any command we can add to this button to make sessions open in the same browser window?

Or alternatively, in the dialog.ini, is there anyway to switch the check box to be ticked by default, rather than not?

[Session Manager Dialog]
Checkbox, 70741, Insert_session_checkbox, 1, 160, 300, 23, Move down, End

Actually... is there any damn way at all to make sessions open in the existing browser window without having to go into the manager and tick that checkbox?!
Cheers.

A workaround is to use the Windows panel and move the session to your primary Opera windows. I admit it's not an ideal solution.

You need to correct the first Sessions button - it misses a quotation mark.

When I click and hold (= Select session) the current window appears to be duplicated.
