Opera IRC Wishlist

There are a few features which Opera Chat needs imho:

1) Highliting
I would like to have the option of highliting which a sound or the new mail / download is finished "popup" when my Name/Nick (both would be good) is mentionend in one of my chats)

2) the /notice command
Display /notice in channels which the same person and not in an extra window. /notive is often used for bots to say hello. It is annoying to have 2 pop up when i connect to quakenet.(From L and from Q who say hello: Thx for logging on.)
And the opera popup blocker doesn't even work there

3) Loging of chats
It might sound a bit Greeky but I want to be able to read a conversation another day.
This allows you to pass a conversation to someone who wasn't there easily.

4) Retry/Reconnect
Mupltiple connect attempts if the first fail. It occors often that you need those and it would be good if Opera would tries it automaticly.
MIRC does this for example.
It would be also nice if opera reconnets if it loses the connetion.

5) Seeing the name of the one who has set the topic of a channel the last time if I join a channel. (For use in private channels)

6) Ignore Command
It is very useful to ignore a spammer. Opera should realy support this.

7) Better Whois
Whois should display the IP Address. This is useful for quite a few online game things.

Me too,!! Please Opera, the next version has to have a better about the opera chat. Would be great if really this had functions of a real IRC script, like mirc or cyberscripts

Opera people, we don't wanna have to download another program to access the IRC chatrooms... If we can download even torrents by Opera, why cannot we have a better IRC native client?

Sometime it doesn't work, sometimes it works, but doesn't show in download list I'm downloading the file nor the percentage

I'd switch immediately to your IRC client if it had any kind of highlighting.
I agree completely with the topic creator regarding Highlighting. I'd also like to see the channel flash in the panel area.

The Opera Chat, for me, has the way quicker/easier to add a server/channel I've seen, would be good to improve it. I think a lot of people would let their clients and would use the Opera Chat.

The funny the Opera has almost a own server, many channels (Opera, snapshot, lounge, my opera, even OPERACHAT) and nothing of IRC improvement. Have to show not only new features but to correct and improve the basic features already have.

haven't used irc for years..

main problem of using irc in opera, is that channel is tab. meaning - you cannot multitask efficiently. i think that if opera will focus on a chat functionality some day - it should implement chats in separate visual space, maybe on status bar. Kinda like Starcraft 2 or Facebook does. Or in F4 sidebar.

I think @c69 that for a better chatting would be a tab only for Opera Chat, where in it would be all the tabs of channels, privates messages, /list and other infos. The idea of a sidebar is great too.

Did IRC logging ever get implemented in the Opera IRC? We've had some imposters hop in one of our irc rooms and I'm seeing if it logged their info but I cant see where it would do or store any of that if it does.

Up until a few updates ago, you'd get a blue dot on the chat tab for new messages in the chat tab, and a red dot if someone mentioned your name. Or something like that, if I recall correctly. Now it's just a little folded over corner if someone says something new. I guess that's called highlighting, but I'd like to see a return to that. The lack of it is killing me. The major reason I use opera is because I can browse the internets and chat on irc at the same time with it, without having to use a separate IRC client or some shitty site like mibbit. So please fix this or I'll have to cut you

Also, this has been bothering me so much that I actually came onto the forums for the first time ever just to let you know that I am most grievously disgruntled.

For me, you are an example of a IRC user what would like to chat and browse in a same software. Opera is gaining many user being a good browser, and he would gain more users came from IRC/mIRC. IRC is a platform being very used still, so I support an improvement.

Actually I dont use the blue dot anymore on the tabs. On the actual Opera icon on the taskbar you will see an envelope icon appear in the upper right if someone posts a new message on an IRC room you are in or even if they sent you an IM through Facebook. If you get an email using the browser, the envelope icon appears in the lower left of the Opera taskbar icon. I actually like it. Though if you are in multiple irc rooms quickly glancing up and seeing which one the notification pertains to more clearly would be good.

Other point to request for IRC is a better notification, a pop-up one, or the tab blinking, because it gets worse when you have many opened irc tabs, it's hard to see what is the tab with new info.

At the least these must be added:
-Secondary nick(in case you get a timeout)
-Auto rejoin (needed badly, there are several times when I have timed out, and i didn't notice until hours later, meaning 5-6 hours of lost log)

Yep, Secundary/Alternative Nick is the basic. About the second thing, there is another thing of logs, I miss that.

off topic: anyone here is using? The Portuguese Forum has created recently a chatroom called #portugues and have chat everyday, 5 people in average, some times 7, 8. We intend to raise up the number of users. And anothers language rooms? How is the situation?

check, check any of the devs or product managers listening?

I'd like to create any petition to see how many users, at least here on Opera are favorable about the feature improvement.

opera still don't have log feature for it irc client...

i'ts so amazing...

a log feature, the download bug fixed, the /ignore feature and an option for sound notification would be great to start, Opera Team

I don't think so. It's to long ago since there has been any update or information about the IRC client. I'll still wander sometimes why I use Opera. Since iCloud now also syncs bookmarks.

They must read sometimes, but... I'll continue post here. If Opera has that feature, I use and it works "good" at least, I'd like some bug fixes, log and /ignore features. I don't think this must be complicated to do, if they aren't interested much, for a while, on IRC client.

The last "update" I've seen on client was on some 11.xx version, a bug it was crashing Opera.
