No Opera Mobile 11 for Windows Mobile
Today we launched Opera Mobile 11 for Android and Symbian platforms. The mobile landscape is changing and Microsoft has moved their efforts away from the Windows Mobile operating system. No new devices have been launched for some time and the market share is falling. As a third party developer and a business, that is a reality that Opera Software has to adjust to.
We know there are many Opera fans who have been eagerly awaiting a new version of Opera for your Windows Mobile devices and we are very sorry to disappoint. But the unfortunate fact is that the platform can no longer provide the revenue potential that Opera Software would need to keep investing in it.
Regarding Microsoft's new platform, Windows Phone 7, Opera is continuously evaluating that and other platforms and we will make products available when and where there is a business case for doing so.
Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile will continue to be available for download. We hope to meet you again on another platform in the future.
Thanks for all your support!

Opera also previously said it would support multiple platforms (including WM), and when Microsoft abandoned WM, Opera as well abandoned WM, how can we believe in the future the same thing does not happen with XP?
Opera's staff can also development Opera for WM in spare time as did with MeeGo, it may not be profitable, but it brings the good image of the Opera for "Opera does not abandoned any platform ", I really hope that!
They did not drop it because there where no users.
The single OS that would have people installing Opera would be WinMo, not iPhone (webkit), Android (webkit), Blackberry 6 (webkit), Windows Phone 7 (blazingly fast IE9 to come this fall)
I guess it will be Opera Mobile without users, not WinMo!
And the question remains: How much would it cost to release a bug-fix version for WinMo? 20, 30, 50 man-days?
PS: Is it really faster to develop for iPhone or Symbian that it is for WinMo?

Opera employees have an Opera Software badge next to their names, so no, I'm not an employee. Do you work for Microsoft?
2. Please quantify 'no users'.
Clearly not enough of them to make it worthwhile for Opera to support a dead platform.
As far as I know, there're plenty of them here in Russia.
It's too bad that almost none of them are using Opera, then. Because if they were, Opera's usage stats would show a significant number of users, which would mean continued support for WM.
As for Symbian, I suggest you to read my post instead, how many of these 100 M phones will be able to run the browser? I reckon not too many.
Considering that the context was when Windows Phone 7 will replace Symbian, I'd guess that all of them will be able to run Opera.
Well I definitely think now that you should try your 'remedy' first yourself - Please check what 'Bada' is, there're tons of mass-produced Samsung Bada-devices, especially on the EMEA market.
Simple fact: WM is dead. Bada clearly isn't big enough for an Opera port. MeeGo is not an official Opera project.

The number of users there is most likely infinitely small, because if there were a significant number of users, Opera would know about it.

I meant that abandoning users -- for any OS, not just WM -- is bound to have a negative impact on the company's image, esp. if those users have been left with buggy software as a final version.Opera won't last too much longer because it no longer supports a dead OS without users? That's pretty funny
Not really. The number of users left on dead platforms is so tiny that they won't have a real impact. And if they are going to boycott Opera for not supporting a dead platform, they will have to boycott everyone else too, since most other applications of a certain size and age have dropped support for a platform at some point.

I see; in other words, those of us who are WM users and have been voicing our objections here don't really exist. Now that is funny! The problem is that Windows Mobile doesn't have any users anymore. Simple as that.
You don't exist in large numbers. Apparently there are so few of you that it would cost Opera money to keep supporting Opera for WM.

Clearly not enough of them to make it worth wile for Opera.

Of course Opera will abandon XP in the future. At some point, it will take too much time to maintain an XP version, and the number of users will be too small, so they'll drop it. The older the OS is, the more it takes to maintain support for it.
And just because Opera said they would support WM doesn't mean that they made a promise to support it for eternity, so please stop making such dishonest claims.
Opera's staff can also development Opera for WM in spare time as did with MeeGo, it may not be profitable, but it brings the good image of the Opera for "Opera does not abandoned any platform ", I really hope that!
You can't force people to do that. MeeGo was done by someone because they had an actual interest in doing so. Clearly, not one has any interest in WM anymore.

I disagree. Since they know how many users there are, that's what they were looking at, compared to how much it takes to maintain a port.

Except WM is dead, and hardly has any users left. I bet that Android even at this early stage has several times more users than Opera on WM.
I guess it will be Opera Mobile without users, not WinMo!
That's assuming that Opera's current user base is on WM. That is clearly not the case. If that were the case, they would not be dropping support.
No, clearly, other platforms, such as Android and Symbian, are where Opera Mobile users actually are.
And the question remains: How much would it cost to release a bug-fix version for WinMo? 20, 30, 50 man-days?
Clearly far too long for it to make any sense.
PS: Is it really faster to develop for iPhone or Symbian that it is for WinMo?
iPhone only gets Opera Mini (and iOS is still alive, while WM is dead).
Symbian is still alive, while WM is dead. When Nokia stops releasing Symbian phones, Opera will probably abandon Symbian too.
me how belive that opera crew was good people...
you know that WM beat Wp7(how dont have copy/past !!! ,no local(usb) sync and so many removed features !) but you surelly got a "donation" from microsoft, to force people to migrate to this shitty Wp7....
i hope you will change your mind, because us, we will never use Wp7 in is current build.
cya.. (and still love/use opera on all my computer WM phone btw)
I just recently bought a Windows Phone 7 device and I am really missing a nice opera browser on it. The IE on it isn't that bad, but I really love Opera. Are there any updates on your WP7 plans?
btw:
@JamesPatageul: the latest update to WP7 (NoDo, released May 3rd) added copy/paste to the OS. Just FYI :-)

Opera is a business. Do you really expect them to waste money by supporting a dead OS with hardly any Opera users?

yeah me too
I really hope that there will be a release for windows phone 7
But well, Opera decided to support WP7, the Iphone-clone for the masses, so we have to accept it. I will use 5.1 until it gets too old to display webpages properly and after that, I decide if I use the java version of it or another native browser (there are still native browsers out there, thank god we don't need Opera if we don't want too).
Windows Mobile Users can us JZSmartMort to integrate the Java versions of Opera (and other browsers) very easily with file associacions etc. so dropped support isn't that hard as it seems.

. Because, I see that OM 6 run faster than OM 5.1

Hello
I have Opera Mini and Opera 10 for Windows Mobile (6.1 Pro). So far everything have worked me perfectly, but I have a few days that I can not synchronize my bookmarks. I insert the username and password, connects to the server, but get me a message that the authentication system is temporarily unavailable. Is there a problem?. I would like to transfer new built-in bookmarks in Opera Mini to Opera 10, and I can not do this problem indicated.
Greetings and thanks,
Opera, such a good and famous browser worldwide running in Win Mob 6 ages, now obviously leaves fans behind who actually look for the very basic enhancement in handling webpages with javascript support and bookmark sync with pc to keep Opera the best browser in the world without hesitation.
Or I have another suggestion: Now that you abandoned Opera Mobile for WM, that means that it's dead. Why don't you open some thread where freelance developers can fix the known bugs with Opera Mobile 10 and you guys can later check if their fixes are working an release, lets say Opera Mobile 10 FINAL?
I have another question too: If OM10 will remain like this as it is, will we the OM10 users on WinMo can still searching through OM10 or that support will be dead too in the near future like SkyFire did with their latest version 1.5? Hope you understand my question.
All the best from Republic of Macedonia

Best regards
So are there any intentions to develop Opera Mobile or Mini for WP7?
Or WP7 is still too small to worth it?

This has been a bad judgement call (I think...) but is there now any hope for us Lumia users?

They have money because they didn't waste it on dead and useless platforms like Windows Mobile.
After 10 years of loyalty to Opera and this is what I get?
You really need a clue. One guy's so-called "loyalty" won't pay Opera's bills. Are YOU going to pay for a Windows Mobile update? Are you going to tell Opera to pull significant resources from other and more useful projects? Laughable.

Yes dude, before Opera was for money, and I spend money to buy their browser. I was talking about that loyalty, something that you obviously don't or won't understand. However, there are millions of phones that still use WM, thanks to cooks from xda-developers and modaco.
Are you an official Opera representative? Do you or have you ever own a WM phone or what phone do you own now? If not, then you are on a wrong thread.
Why they still don't have version for WP7 phones? Thats a new platform, even it is a platform who is growing and developing.
I said i will pay for Opera browser for WM, not for WM OS. If MS decides to make upgraded version of WM, like WM7 (not WP7) I would pay for that too.
Opera offers their browsers for free, so it is normal to expect people would ask for an updated versions also for free. If this is their only source of money, then make it for money, I'm sure people will buy it even if its like 10-15 euros, but when people buy apps like that, they expected perfections, no bugs, etc.
WM is a useless platform? hahaha LOOL, How old you are? WM is considered still as one of the best and stable platforms for business and smartphones. What WM have or had, Android still couldn't reach it, even with the Android ICS 4.0. Google a bit, read a bit, maybe then you will understand some things.
I know that Opera won't make upgraded version of their Opera Mobile 10 Final or Opera Mini 5.1, but that doesn't mean I can't speak what I feel. But I'm pretty sure when MS realize that they made a huge mistake killing WM in favor to their stupid WP and they pool back WM for further development, then Opera would make upgraded versions for mobile and mini. I really hope MS will come to senses and return WM to the market along with their WP.

Is it wrong ?
YES it is wrong!!! What's the title of this thread? Windows Mobile or Windows Phone?
Windows Mobile is one OS, Windows Phone is totally different OS. The only common thing they have is cuz both are made from Microsoft.
This is thread for Windows Mobile OS and possible Opera Mobile 11 for it, which is not going to happen, cuz WM is dropped by Microsoft in favor of the new Windows Phone 7.
Latest Windows Mobile version is Windows Mobile 6.5.5 Pro.
Latest stable version of Opera Mobile for WM is Opera Mobile 10.
So stop asking or posting about Opera Mobile for Windows Phone.

Wrong Answer? Are you f-ing serious?
This is OPERA MOBILE 11 FOR WINDOWS MOBILE THREAD, Not WINDOWS PHONE!
What is not clear to you here?
With your phone browser go to m.opera.com and find out if it's a version for your phone. That is your best solution, or go to Opera for Mobile page.
Jesus Christ people, do a little research before you ask questions here.
P.S Here is the link for Opera Mobile Download Wizard, just choose your phone model and see whats the latest version for your phone and OS. If your phone is not listed there, then there is no Opera Mobile for your phone or OS.
