Built-in feature request: Show webpage title in status bar (current User Javascript implementation doesn't work properly)
The title bar, which normally shows the webpage title is hidden by default, making the webpage title not shown in any part of the GUI. I would like to request that a built-in Opera feature be made that can toggle showing the webpage title in the status bar, for users that prefer it that way.I know that there is a User Javascript workaround but it does not work with all webpages: [1] [2]. This is also one of the reasons why I am requesting that this feature be built-in the browser, instead of a workaround.
Edit: First paragraph - changed "...that can toggle this feature..." to "...that can toggle showing the webpage title in the status bar...".

1. Enable the top menu
2. Enable the old personal bar at the top
3. Use a skin like Windows native that doesn't support transparency
4. Edit your favourite skin to disable transparency
5. Use the main bar with the URL field, and disable the Address bar

Here is a snapshot of what final result we want (to be built in and working on all pages. This JavaScript is nice but not working on all pages. See thread at javascript subforum)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
When one hover over some link, title in status bar disappears and you have the url of the link instead (that should be the feature too, like in that javascript), like here on this link

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (see status bar below)
-->It would be nice if we would have some "title bar field" among buttons, i.e "title field", so that we can drag it where we want while customizing appearance. Title bar is pretty important thing so thats important. And Opera would be much more customizable and a lot more ahead of IE and Chrome etc.
PS: Also, address bar in default versions is way to big. See my is little less thick. Maybe these can be built in, too. Adjusting thickness (or height??, sorry for my english) of addressbar to, like you can adjust height of tab bar with no problem.

There is no need to use ImageShack at all. You have 2 gbytes of storage space on My Opera for such screen shots and other files.

Works fine here.
@gorann use the 'Direct Link' provided by Imageshack instead, so that we get redirected to the full-resolution original image without ads. You might also want to try Imgur.

My request was a feature to show the webpage title in the status bar. I do not want to make the title bar re-appear as it takes too much screen space that could be used to display the webpage instead. It is a much waste of screen space if I enable it just to display the webpage title.
Opera already can show the webpage title in the status bar, but the current javascript implementation doesn't work with some websites.

I think you really misunderstood us totally. Request was to show page title in status bar
Please see picture, thats how it sould ook like http://files.myopera.com/gorann/files/opera1.JPG (i edited the file name, Opera 2 is with mouse hover over link! http://files.myopera.com/gorann/files/Opera2.jpg)
(and when pointer hovers over some link, you have URL instead of title ins statusbar)

Sgunhouse might move this thread for you before it gets closed, but to be honest it would be better to start a new thread after considering the comments in this thread to make the wish clearer.

Look, try to understand, that would be very good not only as option but as default option.
For those of us who use status bar, who are used to it, because of different things, almost always you have lots of empty space in status bar...
So, to put title of the page there is perfect solution... (And thats different functionality than functionality when you have to move your pointer and hover over page tab... In this functionality you just have to look
)And argument that status bar has same height as title bar is not valid too. Because in status bar you can have some other functions, and in title bar you cannot... Its obvious
I think this suggestion is very good and very practical, and natural course of action.
Also that would put Opera again ahead of some other browsers regarding main interface components.
Because now, when I turned off menu bar and title bar, I feel little "blind" when using some forums, I dont know on which topic I am, and its annoying to hover above tabs every now and than... And IE has same large visible screen, and titlebar visible (I know, much less tab space, but again)
So, Opera developers pls put titlebar in status bar or something like an option for that.

Its not obvious at all, since you missed the point.
The status bar is not the same height as the title bar — its bigger. If you use the standard skin, it is 26 pixels, with my large icon skin its 35 pixels, the title bar is just 18 pixels (that's the minimum size that you can set in Windows Desktop Appearance, it might be more).
If you use the main bar instead of the address bar, then you can put the status field, or whatever else you put in your status bar (e.g. Link and Turbo icons, Zoom toolbar) on the main bar, so you don't need the status bar. These days, with wide aspect ratio monitors, a lot of space is wasted with just one extra toolbar. There is room on one toolbar for everything that most users need. Even with 32 pixel icons, I have everything I need on the address bar, and the tab bar.
This is a wish-list, so you can request whatever you want, but there are a lot of other ways already available to get the page title back without wasting space.

I use status bar like huge numbers of average Opera users do (I am a litle advanced user)
Furthermore status is turned on by default.
As I was writting I knew Im made mistake about title bar and status bar height. I'm perfectly aware that title bar is little smaller in height, but nevertheless, thats not the point. In status bar you can put lots of things, and in title bar nothing except title.
Secondly, to reply to your arguments, and to repeat again, I dont use main bar, like most users dont, we use status bar, and in status bar u have lots of empty space just perfect for titloe of the page....
(Its not a effective solution to turn of status bar, turn on bigger main bar, to put everything from address bar to main bar etc etc etc etc. Its simply not same solution and its not effective nor comfortable; and its very distant from Opera default - unnecessary customization, and not with the same result)
So pls dont tell me not to use status bar when I use the status bar, I need it and wont it (I like toput few functions there, similar to ddefault, and to have insight on links there when I hover over them). Im not newbie user. I dont have space in address bar or main bar for things from status bar. In these days monitors also have a lot more pixels in height than before, so? And furthermore why it is turned on by default than?
I use status bar, address bar and tab bar (and occasionally view bar with buttons and such I dont use often), and all is perfect just that there is really a ot of empty space in status bar, and there is no tile except in tooltip which is akward and backward step. JUst you can see here (and you can already see title here
) http://files.myopera.com/gorann/files/opera1.JPG (I have tweaked address bar to be a little smaller in height, I think I can make it still few px smaller, and now I have pretty the same space as in IE8, for example, but i dont see tiiiiiiitle
)PS. Dont think Im angry or something, I'm not at all, I just always feel strongly for my arguments

At least it is a solution — waiting for years for a feature request that may not get implemented doesn't do anything. The status bar and main bar are both just toolbars — use whichever one you want, but if you have the title bar, you no longer need the status bar as you now have the title displayed.

+1 to original request, it should show the current page title until you hover stuff where it is used otherwise (eg. title-text of images, link-urls, ...)

Tnx, but i was suggesting this and defending/explaining our suggestion because this is forum Opera desktop whish list.
I already have half-solution with JS script but its not working properly on all pages, (and really think it would be useful for many people. I think its very natural course of action to implement that simple thing)

Yep, this is what the User Javascript workaround does. If only it worked on all webpages...

Nevertheless I wonder what User JavaScripts & Extensions are good for if every irrelevant feature still has to be built-in.

There is a bug in the current(11.01 and) version of opera witch makes scripts not work on some pages, but i played with the beta a little and the userscripts/extension seam to work finally on all pages

This request is an option. If you don't use it, you can opt not to. This is the same as choosing which User Javascript or extension you use or toggling an Opera feature on or off.

You should ask Opera why they made Speed Dial, Custom search engines, Download Manager, Password Manager (Wand), Sidebar, Tab Stacking, Session manager, Custom CSS, Fit-To-Width, Show/hide images, Enable plug-ins only on demand (Flashblock), Notes in sidebar, IRC client, email client, RSS feed reader and many many other "irrelevant" features to be "built-in", when they would be better off as an extension, right?
For me, a reason why I requested this to be a built-in feature is: that Opera built-in features tend to be of higher quality implementation that an equivalent extension or Javascript workaround (one of the main reasons why I choose Opera over Firefox). If it's gonna be a battle of extensions against Firefox, then Opera would definitely lose. But since Opera's implementation of its built-in features are of high quality than an equivalent extension, it has an edge over Firefox and other browsers.
Another reason is: I'm not sure if the User Javascript workaround not working on all webpages is an Opera or Javascript limitation. If it's the former, then maybe it just could be fixed in a later version, but if it's the latter then this has to be an optional built-in feature.

Currently, you have to hover over the tab bar to view the page title. This is slow and not really an alternative to what I requested. If it's in the status bar, I could glance at it without clicking at anything (very useful if a lot of tabs are open and if you need to keep track of the title of the webpages - more so if many tabs from the same website is open). Also, this request is as an option. It will not be required for the people who prefer to view the title by hovering the mouse cursor over the tab bar.

Do you say that the UserJS works on all pages with Opera 11.10???
If yes, I would like someone to quit this case. I would like to remind that Firefox users are liking the new version even if they don't get a page title.
Infact, Google Chrome 8.0+, IE 9 and Firefox 4 do not display webpage title!!!! They show it only in the little tab bar like current version and Beta version of Opera.

After all, Opera is not like other browsers.
And you have plenty of emtpy space in status bar... Therefore it is a simple and natural step which would do very well for majority of Opera users who do use, in fact, the status bar. (and status bar is furthermore turned on by default...)

Just tested it with Yahoo! Mail. Like I reported earlier in the UserJS thread: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=6431822 , the UserJS to display the webpage title in the status bar still doesn't work all the time (same as with versions before Opera 11.10).
I also noticed the same behavior with the My Opera forums.

Opera is not "Google Chrome 8.0+, IE 9 and Firefox 4". I like Opera more because of the features it has that other browsers don't have or don't have a very good implementation of.
