A few things that keep me off from using Opera mobile as primary browser

1. A new and better tab switching mechanism on phone, take a look at Chrome beta, ICS stock browser. These make Opera tab management looks so 2010.

2. Most importantly, the automatic text wrapping. Unchecked, the page won't scale to better viewing at all. Checked it, the page keep reflow as you zoom, making the browser slow even on duo-core! On some cases where people just wanna zoom in to have a better look at the picture/click a link, why am i need the text to be reflow? Reflow reorganized the page and push my desire content elsewhere!

So, can add in some option where specific zooming action can stop the reflow from happening? Like a pinch and a pulse of "?ms" will not trigger reflow.

3. The bottom navigation bar. Leaving it there eat up my phone screen estate and hide it making accessing option a hussle (need to press the menu button to bring it up). So mind to add in some quick controls as ICS browser (OR ICS plus browser on market)? It's very convenient and for me, it's time for Opera to catch up in the GUI presentation. Current UI from 2010 is much inferior as compare to others recent alternative.

Please give us option to choose a default zoom (close). I'd like to view pages always zoomed in.
PLEASE.
Thank you.

Are you giving feedback regarding what improvements you wish to see in Opera Mobile for Android ?, Or just purposely using your post slag Opera mobile off, And then comparing it to beta software, Which happens to actually be part of the OS. rolleyes
Opera 12.14 - 1738 (Portable 32bit) on Win8 Pro, Or portable versions of Linux Mint 14 or Puppy Linux Upup Precise - 3.8.3.1

I think I'm clear with the feature I wish to see in Opera and my reason for it.
Things that I mentioned above is what I feel Opera is lagging behind the most while I'm using others browser.
If wasn't the goodness of Opera link, I don't think I'll keep Opera mobile on my phone. Just like the tab switching mechanism, current UI that have been using since 2010 might be good for 2010 phone with limited ram and processing power, but nowadays 2012 phone lineup, duo core and gig of ram seem mid class. Seriously you think that tab switching currently on opera can work easily for 10 open tab? Not to say 10, it start to get difficult to choose the tab you want once it hit 4.

Would anyone from the devs team post here so that we would know if we are not posting for a complete waste?
Why there is no feedback from you?

Some people would like to know if you are planning to release a separate version for tablets.
Give us some feedback!

Just like in this new Desktop snapshot, how about bringing this to Mobile? The ONE thing I wish in Mobile is a decent bookmark search facility. Pretty please?

Thanks again for a great browser! smile

May be some custom zoom options for sites will be great? Sometimes It's can be real annoying to cancel zoom on sites, where desigh is already fits to mobile devices.

Opera Notes, missing from the mobile phone has a drastic side effect!
I have now stopped using the Desktop Opera Notes, as I now have to use a mobile notes app that does not synch with Opera!
And it has rich text notes and more, and syncs with the desktop.

Everyone asking for an "Android" user agent... seems a silly and short-sighted ident to me!

I mean, how would "Android" distinguish between someone browsing on a budget phone with a tiny screen, someone on a tablet with a large touchscreen and (hypothetically) someone on a netbook with a proper keyboard and mouse but no touch-screen?

"Android" says *NOTHING* about how you actually interface with the content! "Mobile" does, "desktop" does... so what you really need to do is lobby for a "tablet" string!

In fact, I would also suggest that Opera Mobile needs to have a "phone" mode and a "tablet" mode - the UI could then make use of more screen space (tab bar, status info, on-screen options), mouse gestures etc. when in tablet mode. If more optimisation is required for tablet browsing to position it closer to the desktop experience, then Mobile needs to be split into two flavours of Opera. You'd have: Mini, Phone, Tablet, Desktop.

Who told "Android User-Agent on all OS's Opera Mobile versions"?
Android UA is already available on Opera Mobile. But it has to be set manually by going Opera:config > User Prefs > Custom User-Agent and simply typing 'Android' in textbox.
Then both default UAs won't work.
I mean if you set Mobile or Desktop, it doesn't metter.
We want Android UA in only Android version of Opera Mobile.

Example: Facebook has special touch site for Android phones and iPhones.
If you open Facebook from speed-dial of Opera Mobile, it'll open normal Mobile site. Why? Why we have to enter http://touch.facebook.com in address bar manually? Some other sites don't have normal mobie version, only have Smartphone versions. Without Android UA, we can't use those extreme user friendly site versions.
Not only it'll be useful, but also it'll make Opera Mobile perfect browser.

Yes, but *THAT* is what I find stupid!!!

They should never have started using the name of an OS (which supports many types of devices) to label a specific usage type (small screen, touch interface). It's wrong in principle, and will only cause problems as more different types of device use Android or iOS.

Instead, the industry should have defined some standard device categories (phone, tablet, desktop, TV, games-console, etc.) or some UI input/output categories (very small screen (small phone, watch), small screen (phone), standard screen (tablet, monitor), large screen (HDTV), very large screen (projection), low resolution, standard resolution, high resolution, 2D, 3D, touch interface, mouse interface, keyboard interface, game-console interface, remote-control interface, etc.).

But on the other hand, I thought the whole point of XHTML etc. a few years ago was that the website provided standard page content and the device would then render that to fit its capabilities...

Ya, Now you got it.. We're talking about the capability. Most of the Androids are touch devices and iOS....completely touch devices. We don't want to replace Mobile UA with Android UA. If Opera adds this, Opera Mobile would be the first browser with Mobile and Android UAs (both togather!).

But I don't think you got what *I* was saying!

The idea ten years ago was that the server would serve up *the exact same code* to any device, and *the device* would configure that content for display/interaction with the user.

My point is people like Facebook are going in exactly the opposite direction...

This may be my only post here.
I'm retired; I can't remember a bunch of different IDs for different forums. So I have one I use everywhere. It has a Linux type underscore link character. This forum, IMO, is out-of-touch and *way* out-of-date to prohibit ALL special characters in sign-on IDs.
Please fix this unnecessary restriction. Thank you.

Now my "wishlist" item:
I really can't think of anything more basic or essential to the nature or purpose of a browser than the ability to key (or paste) a URL into the address box and then go to that webpage. If Opeta has that ability -- to visit directly a typed or pasted URL instead of searching on it -- it is well hidden.

To be specific please put a "GO" button next to the "go-ogle" one in the address bar. Or, even a context menu "paste-and-go" option like FF would be a big improvement.

I won't sign out. Maybe if I use history to revisit the forum it'll bring me here again and I can see if anyone. replied.

Opera Mobile definitely needs to allow panning while zoom-pinching. It makes navigating websites much, much more fluid and faster. At the moment you need to stop pinching in order to scroll through the website, which means it's difficult and slower to zoom exactly where you want. It also makes navigation feel very rigid and awkward.

This is in my opinion the second biggest problem of this browser, right after the inability to drag things (HTML5 drag) and the bug where elements with position:fixed scroll with the rest of the website and then move back where they're supposed to be when the scrolling is finished.

My expectation as a current Opera desktop user who is now acquiring a smartphone to replace a Palm Pilot. I've used Palm devises for at least 15 years, and found the core applications (notes, contacts, todo list, and search engine that searches for your Palm data not internet) ultra useful.

I feel hobbled because my Opera notes and contacts do not follow me to my smartphone (Opera Mobile) like they do to my various laptops at home and work. I thought I had seen an Opera Notes app listed for android but that it was discontinued. What a disappointment that was.

I was also successful in migrating off of Eudora (an otherwise fine client email package) to M (the Opera mail client). I would also like to see the Opera Mail browser client be part of Opera Mobile.

Thanks for listening!
Tom

Hello.

So here goes my first post. As some users have already suggested I too would like the mobile version to get a bit more unified with the desktop one. I'd love to have open tabs shown on top of the screen like on desktop browsers. I think this could be possible as phone screens are getting bigger. More and more phones also have HDMI or MHL outputs so having a browser similar to the desktop one and the phone hooked up to a big HD TV would be great. In my example that would be sufficient for most of my computing needs. As some users have smaller screen estate this could perhaps be configurable in the settings. I would also like the browser to incorporate the same keyboard shortcuts as the desktop version has so that I could easily control the browser (on TV) from my couch via a bluetooth keyboard. And another thing. I have a 5.3" screen on my Note and would much prefer the tablet version of Opera. All I get is the phone version. Can I do something about this?

Thanks.

I would really like to see a better integration into Android. Currently Opera Mobile (and Mini) do not really look "native". Since ICS came out OS integration became even more important and Chrome and Firefox will get big competitors on Android too.

- the icons in the navigation bar look okay, but not like the Holo Theme
- menus on ICS have vertical text only entries, not a big menu with huge icons
- get rid of the search bar, it uses too much space of the address bar and users learned to use the address bar for searching because of other browsers (even on desktop!). you can also add a "search" entry in the (text only) vertical popup menu.
- tab management of firefox is really good now, try to adopt from it
- use ActionBarSherlock to provide a good looking ICS theme for Android 2.x devices
- addons have been tested with a labs build, try to provide them to be one of the first browsers to have that feature
- pure horizontal and vertical scrolling shouldnt get out of that "scroll-lane" too easy so that you can read a longer text without getting out of your position and have to always refocus where you were reading (its hard to describe for me, but I hope its understandable)

I could try to make a mockup for the visual part of what I want it to look like.
