I want to start a blog

To start a blog you need to have a My Opera account. From the "My page" menu in the header, choose "Account", and click on "Start a blog". Fill in the fields and click "Create blog". Note: you can change the blog settings at any time.

It is important to identify the blog language when you start a blog. All your new posts will appear in the community blog section under the header "New (local)", making it easy for others to find them, but also for you to find cool people writing in your language.

I want an introduction to all my posts.

There might be situations when your posts contain spoilers to movies, games, music, etc. that your readers should not discover until they click "read more...". To create a post with this format, click on "Advanced options" in the top right corner of a new blog post. Two extra fields appear: "Post URL", where you can give the URL for your post, and "Post intro", which includes all the text prior to the "read more" link. If you leave the "Post URL" field blank, a URL will be generated automatically.

Write the introduction to your post in "Post intro", and the main body of the text in "Post". When you have finished writing, scroll down and click on "Preview" to see a preview of your post. Click on "Save" to save it.

Privacy settings.

You control who reads your blogs and photo albums, either on a post-by-post basis, or by choosing a default setting. There are three different levels of privacy: public, friends only, and private. Public means that the post is visible to all visitors. Friends only means that the post is visible only to people you have identified as friends. Private means for your eyes only — no one but you can read the blog or photo album.

To change the privacy settings, sign in and click on blog or photos. The privacy settings are available under "Access rights" in the blog settings. If you want to change the privacy settings on your photo albums, you have to set the access rights for each album individually.

Note: You can at any time change the privacy settings of your blog and photo albums on My Opera.

I want to change the design of my blog.

Sign in to My Opera and choose "Account" from the "My page" menu in the header. Click on "Design", and select from the available designs, or add your own custom style sheet. To see a preview of the design, click on the image. Press "select theme" to install a design, once you have chosen one. You can also click "preview" if you want to see what the design looks like, without applying it. New themes are added on a regular basis, so change the design as often as you like!

I want to add a YouTube video / music player in a blog post.

First go to YouTube (or any other online video/music provider) and find a video that you like. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4.

On the right side of the video you will see a text field with the title "Embed". Inside the text field there is some code starting with the word "<object>". Select the text field and press "ctrl + c" to copy the code (or alternatively, right click the mouse and select "copy"). Returning to your blog, paste ("ctrl + v") the code into your post, choose a title, and save. That´s it.

Go to your account. Click on "Sidebars and menus" (3rd left menu choice from top). Items that are shown in your blog sidebar are checked. Feel free to experiment with the different sidebars and find a setting which works for you. You can always come back and add/remove sidebars to your blog.

Why does not my blog appear on search engines?

Well, it takes time. If you've written something on your blog Google will have to index it first. Google is Google, but even Google can't find something if it doesn't exist.
