The Philly CBS3 Mess

, , , , , , , ,

A local station in Philadelphia terminated one weekly evening news anchor back in January. The story made the national news. Alycia Lane of CBS3 was let go, because as the station management said (not a direct quote), as a news reporter, she had become the news. Ms. Lane had been arrested for assaulting a female police officer in New York City. Her arrest had been the latest in a series of unfortunate events to make the news. She was even on Dr. Phil discussing her divorce. Read more here. Ms. Lane was able to walk away from the police assault charge.

A few weeks ago, Larry Mendte who had co-anchored the evening news with Ms. Lane was taken off the air. It is alleged that he had been snooping in to her yahoo email account. The investigation of Mr. Mendte has gone as high as the FBI. Some are saying, even if he is exonerated, the news station will still dismiss him, because he became the news. It is also alleged that Mr. Mendte was leaking unflattering news about Ms. Lane to news media sources by tapping into her email account. It was not much of a secret that he was envious of the fact that CBS3 paid her $100,000.00 more a year. Read more here.

Alycia Lane is now suing CBS3 for her dismissal. She is not legally pursing Mr. Mendte at this time. Read about the lawsuit here and Ms. Lane speaking on it here. What a mess! This top news team is completely obliterated. As far as Mr. Mendte is concerned, this looks like a case of looking out for “number 1” while knocking down and stepping on those getting in your way. The end result is well deserved. This should be a lesson to all those desiring to knock down a co-worker to get in their place.
